You'd be suprised how many companies out there charge that much for domain registaration. Once you get past the few first ones on Google search you'll see some sane pricing and not the lets make $.25 per domain prices.

If I had a business that depended on my site being up 24/7 and my domain name being secure I sure as hell wouldnt be trying to save $20 on domain registration.

You guys should consider Godaddy. I get a ton of promotions from them weekly.

The most expensive domains I've ever seen was back in 98 with networksolutions.com - back the I remember ordering several domains (.coms) and they were around $70 plus for two years (the two years were required if I am not mistaken.) But there was an advantage to the prices....

You could order a domain and would not have to pay a dime up front. They would just send you an invoice for the amount and you had 4-6 months to pay or the domain was deleted out of your account.

That was nice!

At $44 per year they're expensive compared to Namecheap or GoDaddy, but they're not that expensive compared with some other registrars out there.

I remember this one registrar, you could register any TLD or ccTLD you wanted, but even their .com domains cost about $100 per year. I'm also pretty sure you can find more expensive if you really look for it.
