Which should I use the word, based or headquartered to say where I'm (the hosting company) from? Actually, its not a company and the hosting servers are not in the same state as I am in.
Just wanted to hear from you guys first because I don't want to use the wrong word telling people that I'm a company or something like that. I don't want to mislead people.

Depends entirely on the context, but "based" would probably sound more natural to speakers of American English in most cases.

Both Sound the same to me and I'm a native English speaker from Toronto..You could also use CO (Corporate office) OR HQ (Headquarters). "central Location" maybe..
maybe one might sound more snobby than the other (refined), but it really is how you intend on writing your company bio.
"Based out of Peoria, Il, abcd.com has provided over 10 years of web hosting services to individuals, small and medium sized enterprises etc etc"
"abcd.com., headquartered in Peoria, Il, is one of the leading web hosting providers worldwide
up to you.

Is the difference stylistic? I mean headquartered sounds more official, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a native speaker.

Headquarters means that is your central and primary location. Based out of means that your company is centered around the area.

I thought headquarter is rather for such organizations as NATO, UN etc

It may be easier to just think of something being headquartered as being the single building within a military compound where the command and his/her immediate subordinates work. The base is the entire compound, including the HQ. Your company may be based in Bellevue but it's headquartered on NE 20th St.

Very nicely put and easily understood. You could use located in some state at some address. :) Just another method of not confusing your clients.

Gotta agree with BillBrown. Saying something like 'Based in sunny Los Angeles, CA' sounds better than 'Headquartered in sunny Los Angeles, CA'...

I agrees with you guys about "based" instead of "headquartered". I must admit the word "headquartered" sounds more like official type which I'm not.

i would rather use based or located. In my opinion, headquartered sounds weird :X

"Located" would probably be most appropriate.

I figured it would be. Okay, this is my last time I'm changing the word. It is now "located" and I'm sticking with it.
