Hi,

Citroid here, long time lurker, first time poster. Been looking to decide on a dedicated server for a couple weeks now. This forum has been great, taught me a lot about what hosts to avoid. I have it narrowed down to dtwebworks.com and racklocation.com. I'm basically looking to spend around $100-$150 a month. But a couple hours ago I cam across a new site:

http://www.2interactive.com

I did a search here, but nothing came up on them. Does anyone have any past experience with this provider? It seems like a good deal. Has MySQL and PHP already installed (dtwebworks and racklocation don't); web control panel; and option to buy for $300 more. The only thing that seems stingy is 2 gig transfer rate.

So if anyone has info please let me know. Originally I was planning on going with dtwebworks.com, but I noticed that their site was down for a bunch of hours yesterday. So I don't know how well that reflects on the company. So now I might decide either on racklocation.com or 2interactive.com (more research needed though).

thanks,

citroid

I already explained that in another post, our web server was acting up, this did not reflect the uptime of any of our other clients, perhaps you should ask or do a search in the forum, I have to yet have a dissatisfied client and our uptime has been superior...

For $100/mo, what do you get? A 300Mhz CPU (what type? P2? Celeron? AMD?), 64 MB mem, 15GB HD, and only 2 GB of transfer... Now... 2GB is nothing.... Why would you need a dedicated server if you only need 2 GB? You can get much chepaer deal with virtual account.... Anyway, I could not find any information regarding the overage bandwiht charge. Normal price is about $3-$4/GB, but some company tries to offer cheap dedicated server bu very expensiveoverage bandwith charge (I ran across a company who charges about at least $15/GB!). Also, how about the NOC? How good/reliable is their NOC? How fast is their backbone? how much are IPs? How about control panel? So you definitely should check these out.... Don't start cheap but end up expensive.

Personally, I would suggest you to check http://www.venturesonline.com because they offer SCSI drive, P3800, 25GB traffic per month, control panel (and web host manager) and they are located at VDI (one of the fastest NOC!) for only $200/mo deal. Also dtwebworks.com has a $99/mo deal (though only IDE drive, 10GB per mont, no control panel). You may ask Charles (he is usually around here) about installing that PHP and mySQL....

Last: Support and reliability are probably the most important things... So search this forum for these companies and you will learn a lot... I have never heard about 2interactive.com, and I don't really like their deal also :( Not really great....

cheers,
