Hey,

Is anyone else seeing signups slow down by 15-20% (hosts that have been around a while). We even increased our advertising by 30% and barely saw a 15% increase in signups.

Sales are still going strong here.

Actually it appears things are still improving gradually as the summer lurches on. I'd definitely emphasize "gradually"... I'm not sure if shared hosting can improve exponentially as far as sales any longer. :D

Certainly is a far cry from last fall/winter... thankfully.

At any rate, best of luck.

Guess we need to try other advertising venues then =).

The only signups we are getting right now are from referrals (our biggest always) and a few from our advertising campaigns.

We're getting slammed here.

However a lot of it is due to the problems currently being experienced by a certain web host.

The majority of our reseller sign-ups are leaping from notorious hosts.

Its a bit slow on this end - but this has partially to due with the fact that I'm still implementhing the new software.

I won't go as far as saying we're getting slammed - but the last 2 weeks have been pretty incredible.

No complaints here :)

Sales are up, and we have a higher than usual signup rate from clients who were with previous hosts.

Word of mouth, we have done no advertising and things are going great. 6 servers in our farm at the moment. I think the end and start of april/may was slow.

I have noticed quite a high level of fraudulant orders through our firm over the past few months. But i have heard it is to be expected during the summer months. Quite strange that:confused:

Our signups are down a lot here, but we haven't been doing TOO much advertising. Trying to program the backend better so that when go on another advertising push, we'll be better able to serve the old and new customers.

I'm just glad I started my July sale a few days BEFORE the shoe dropped, else people might think I was trying to capitalize.

And we're still slamming over here, 30-50 orders a day, think I'm gonna pay my car off next week, that's $300 a month and another $50 thanks to dropping full coverage insurance! Means if things slow down less bills to pay :D

Summertime = most kids out of school.

Kids = source of a lot of fraudulent orders.

Mystery solved. :-)

Take care,

Advertise?

Nowhere. Not a dime is spent on it.

Not sure why people worry about what others have for sign up numbers. Most cases they are lies (like when you ask woman how many men she has been with). Just do some looks at their name servers. Also, if you are selling your basic plan for $9.95/mo vs. $4/mo, then you selling 10 accounts is much better then someone else selling 25 the $4 account. Less support, more chance for upsell as people willing to pay more, will spend more, and you have a much better opportunity to sell your company as you have margins that are dedicated to success.

So if your competitor sells plans for $4 and gets 100 clients a day, who cares? If you want to get 100 customers a day - lower your cost to where you lowball everyone. There is no rocket science to getting customers. There is rocket science to making your business succeed long-term.

On a side note, can anyone name a low cost provider that actually sold? Look how many grow fast and then run into trouble. There are three I know of right now just on these boards.

good point UmBillyCord thank you...it's made me see things in a different way now.

What 3 compaines have grown fast and got in trouble?

mdrussell

UmBillyCord makes a very valid point - which will be right in a lot of cases.
However, if hosts have multiple servers, with different nameservers for each server, or if they offer resellers the ability to have their own custom nameservers then looking at their nameservers will not always give a representative figure.

Very true. I always keep this in mind. However some host who make claims of thousands, but only show a hundred on their name servers will valadate my point. Also, it is easy to run the search with a wildcard ;). We know a lot of host will set up name servers on each server when they start, but as they grow they eventually move to redundant, dedicated nameservers. These are easier to see.

What would you type to see list of domains on a set of name servers ?

Roddo, don't worry, after +1 year in bussines, I rarelly get more than 3 daily sign ups, and I like it in that way, I like to grow slow.
