I was wondering how to receive instant email notification whenever a new thread is started? I tried to subscribe to forum but that only sends daily/weekly updates.

Does anyone know if such a feature exist?

Thanks.

There's too much activity for instant notification to be a reality.

I think this feature, if implemented, will promote/increase participation from members.

Without that, one has to actively browse the site to find new threads, which is quite time consuming.

It isn't supported in vBulletin at this time. However, it is possible to hack the functionality into 3.6, if they want to go that route after WHT gets its face lift. Even so, as ub3r said, it may still not be plausible because of the extra load it would be putting on the web servers.

If instant notification is not feasible due to the level of activity, something like hourly update is still better than daily update IMO.

I don't know about you, or the rest of the members, but after the first day I'd get really annoyed receiving 800 notices for all the new threads. Even just 24 a day would piss me off.

That's quite true, I've never tried it so I don't know yet :)

Anyway, I was just thinking of being more active in a few select (not all) forums and find having to browse the pages a few times a day a big pain.

The best solution is to be able to download WHT with a newsreader program, but I know that will never happen.

Why not just use RSS?

Just come in every hour or two and hit the new posts button to get an ordered lists of all the new posts and updated posts in time order...

The RSS shows only the latest posts and not all new threads. That is the same as browsing the WHT home page, I often find the need to browse each forum to see new threads. Thanks anyway for the tips.

I may sound like making a big fuss here. In fact, I enjoy reading on WHT, just trying to find ways to make it easier.

Are you referring to http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?do=getnew ? Thanks for the suggestion, will try that.

Since I am not a web host, there are fewer threads that interest me, and I often find the need to skim through many threads that don't interest me. The IDEAL solution for me will be to receive instant notifications on new threads (on a per forum basis). For threads that I am interest in, I will either reply or manually subscribe. For other threads, I'll just skip through and do not want to see them again.

Since that ideal solution does not exist, I'll just find other workarounds. Thanks for all the replies.
