Hello everyone - I have a discussion forum that I would like to migrate to a forum + picture gallery with editable user profiles. I want to be able to add special sections for users to fill out in their profile. Right now I am looking at the invision power board + their picture gallery add on. The total price is going to be somewhere around $200. So what advice can you offer?

Or - if you have another sugestion for forum + picture gallery + detailed members profiles please post it. I have one site using the simple machines forum, but would like to try something different.

----UPDATE----

Afer searching the forum I found this post - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=570227&highlight=invision

After a while that thread turned into an argument over 9 dollars difference in the price.

The reason for asking about IPB is the picture gallery module that IPB has built for that forum. Vbullentin does not seem to have a good gallery at a reasonable price.

SMF has a gallery add on, but it cost more then IPB + its gallery module combined.

I would say, from experience, that VBulletin would be a better bet, there are free gallery solutions and it is far far far more secure compaired to IPB, which seems to have more exploites than i care to count. :)

definitely agree with afterburn, vbulletin is much more worth it, ipb to me is less functional and less ease of use

Unfortunately, I share the same opinion here. Speaking from experience, IPB is not a very lucky bet, VBulletin works much better and flawlessly.:agree:

After much debate, searching and reading I went with vbullentin. Now I just need a good gallery solution and members profile mod. So if anyone knows of such, please post it.

There are LOOOOOOOOADS of great mods, including ones that do what you need on vbulletin.org, to download you need to add the email address you use as a contact email in your vbulletin.com control panel, that is explained on the vbulletin.org site :)

Just as Kev, after much debate, searching and reading I went with VBulletin too. I don't think I would every feel the need to go back to IPB.

Just wanted to update this post. After almost a month with Vbulletin I am very happy with my purchase. The mods from Vbulletin.org are wonderful, to say the least. Thank you to everyone that posted their opinion.
