Anyone else see this?

Looks pretty cool if you ask me! Redundant power supplies... each server blade has Dual 1.26ghz, up to 2 gb ram, 2x73GB u/320 SCSI disks (raid capable), dual GIGABIT ethernet cards... all in 1/2u per server. Looks pretty crazy!

I'm a droolin! Wow, this is excellent news. I had been looking at Compaq's server blades for a while now, 20 servers in a 3U case but now... Well, Dude, I'm gettin some Dell! :D

Tickin away the moments that make up a dull day. Now, they just have to come out!

Hm, there are only 6 blades per 3U? I thought the idea of server blades is to cramp as many servers in as little space, perhaprs like 20 blades in 3U space as DizixCom says about Compaq? A 1/2 U server is nothing really new, you can get it yourself (the case) although it may not turn out to be as powerful server as this dell's. Still... I was expecting like 20 servers in 3U and got a liitle bit dissapointe to see it only comes with 6 servers :)

It's the power of each blade that impresses me. The Compaq's are only 700 MHz, with 5400 RPM IDE drives and 512MB RAM Max. These things are dual capable, P3 1.26GHz, up to 2GB RAM, and my favorite two SCSI drives with RAID.

Now, how much will these things run? My guess is that they will be a bit more than yer average hosting provider wishes to pay, but for more advanced services such as WebSphere, BEA, or even Vignette, these would be ideal.

If only they were cost effective enough. These are for mission critical corporate websites? I guess it won't work for webhosting offering accounts for under 10 bucks a month =)

The Samurai Blade Server solution offered up to 1.2 Ghz and 1 Gb so this power was not previously unavailable at all. Problem still is that there are no standards within this area so wouldnt rush in yet as it's not economically viable still atm.

with the current economy and falling prices on colocation space, I don't think blade servers (they are expensive) are the best solution... of course depends how much you pay for 1U, but trust me, space rent is going down and fast ....
