I was working at General Motors when I started in the hosting industry, the work bored me so much I had 8 hours a day to waste, I started moderating cos I was here so much.

Then I even got bored of that, changed jobs and now there arent enough hours in the day to get drunk, work and moderate but im coping and its good fun :)

Glad to hear about other car guys on this board...

No wasn't my friend... It's a common video on the web...

I spent the last few days with a transmission resting on my chest trying (eventually successfully) to get it bolted back up to the clutch after rebuilding it b/c we don't have a tranny jack :D...

I blew the differential at the track... Shot one of the spider gears through the bell housing of the tranny... Nice big hole :D

zdwebhosting
07-07-2002, 06:33 PM

I fried my first clutch.. Reason for the beefy version...

If you want it fast... Get used to breaking things...

Having something fail is the best reason to buy something better :D...

zdwebhosting
07-07-2002, 08:10 PM
lol yea whole reason for me buying this clutch

i had to replace the stock clutch 6 months ago and went with a napa and the stupid mechanic did'nt even turn the flywheel when he installed it such an idiot

I went from System Administrator, to MIS Manager, to Director of MIS, and, then, took a swing to the side and be came a QA Engineer. Needed a break from flying around the US too much.

Did QA for about 3 1/2 years, and got let go because of a Microsoft Lawsuit that scared Compaq.

All of that supporting OpenVMS, UNIX/Tru64/Linux/solaris, WindowsNT, and an ENTIRE telecommunications system.

NOW, I have my own Hosting business, dialup access, and reseller business. THE FUN NEVER STOPS!!!

Steve

And yeah, OpenVMS still rules. Hands down the best OS I've seen. What I SHOULD be doing is running OpenVMS on my servers with Apache!!! Wouldn't THAT be cool!

Wow, that's funny. I actually STARTED at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) back in 87, as a third shift computer operator. I LOVED working 7pm - 7am Sat/Sun, and then 11pm-7am M/T/W. Very cool hours... :)

Of course, at 37 now, I could NEVER do that anymore... :bawling:

Programmer for NCR for a while, watched them get consumed, chewed up, and spit out by AT&T, then started doing contract software development for AT&T. If you can't beat em, join em!

Of all corporate CEO's I've ever paid any mind to, Lars Nyberg (current NCR CEO) has got to be one of the best. And Teradata is good stuff.

i used to compose music using scream tracker 3, tried to work my way though the demoscene (www.scene.org). i ended up using the demogroup name for the webhosting company just because that's how things ended up. used to write x86 code a lot and make stupid little games. played in the u.s. army for a little while too. i always enjoyed wasting time inside on the computer, but now i dont even try to find the time to do the things which once made me somewhat normal :-)

We let it expire and someone else has it now :(

Back in 1995, advertising was in its infancy, and we were too thickheaded to realize it...

No regrets though :)

I chose my major in college specifically because it had no computer courses required. Computers scared the crap outta me. You know, that cryptic stuff and wierd codes you type in them... lines of text... made no sense!!!

Today at dinner I was secretly pleased to be drilled by this guy who had "no idea" I manage linux servers, and how did I get into that, and what was my training, etc. etc. It is funny how this little town of mine has no idea my "online life" or the things I've learned/done outside the village's boundaries. I've known this guy for two years now and he had no clue. 'Course I don't wear a "Got Root?" t-shirt or anything -- not that anybody here would get it anyway....
