Which do you think is best? and w..h..y?

NNHost 07-07-2002, 05:40 AM Which do you think is best? and w..h..y? itsdestiney* 07-07-2002, 05:44 AM AIM it just rocks KualoJo 07-07-2002, 06:06 AM Trillian -- everything in one app, nice, easy, simple. JSpired 07-07-2002, 06:13 AM Trillian! It's all there in one program. secludo 07-07-2002, 06:25 AM The only thing I really use is MSN. AIM is way too bulky and complicated with more options than I'll ever use, Yahoo I haven't used in years but last time I checked it is the same as AIM, ICQ is just garbage as far as I'm concerned... I have never used Trillian or anything else, my fiance did for a short while until he started having problems with it though. Um, anyway, I use a program called Everybuddy, just to use my MSN account since it is the only way I really "chat" with people. It is okay, although I had a hell of a time getting it installed at first, it works nicely now :) There is also a program called Imici, but I had a sh*tload of problems with it - sometimes people wouldn't receive my messages and vice versa. shaunewing 07-07-2002, 06:46 AM Trillian here, because as others have said it is all there in one program, looks nice and is easy to use. I hate those other programs that feel like integrating themselves with other programs and launch themselves on startup despite what they've been told. Windows Messenger for example... won't quit whilst Outlook Express is runninng and even though it has been set to not run on startup, it still does. --Shaun. Marko_P 07-07-2002, 09:54 AM I like MSN its awesome. Easy to use and all. I also use AIM its cool too. Well I actually use AIM+ it removes all the ads from AIM. MGCJerry 07-07-2002, 10:06 AM Windows Messenger for example... won't quit whilst Outlook Express is runninng and even though it has been set to not run on startup, it still does. I've found a way around this, because I really hate these types of "features". I found a simple fix to this problem that will prevent M$N Messenger from starting up when you run Outlook and/or go to hotmail. Run your registry editor of choice (I use regedit), and do a search for F3A614DC-ABE0-11d2-A441-00C04F795683 and delete all instances of it... Then search for FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541 and delete all instances of it. For each one there is 1-2 instances of each. If Messenger doesnt start-up when you check your hotmail inbox, or startup when you run Outlook, the fix was successful. :) Disclamer: This "fix" is provided "as-is" with no warranty of any kind. This is a solution that has worked for me and a couple friends and your results may vary. I have noticed no decline in system performance since I started doing this. Obviously, before registry editing, you are recommended to BACKUP your registry before trying this, and this is to be left to experienced computer users. ;) edude 07-07-2002, 10:20 AM MSN messenger for me - mainly because all my friends use it :D Andrew 07-07-2002, 11:00 AM Trillian's configurability is awesome. It's like a linux app. You can modify just about everything about it. I still use MSN and AIM clients for my personal business, but for support and business related messaging, it's Trill all the way. Fair Dinkum 07-07-2002, 11:20 AM I use Gaim on my desktop. Similar to Trillian, but for linux. SoftWareRevue 07-07-2002, 11:28 AM YIM has the best smilies IMHO. :D I use all of the above. I just prefer YIM for a number of reasons. Smilies is just a nice bonus. But, the message archive really rocks. okihost 07-07-2002, 11:43 AM trillan here, that way we are connected in everyway possible.. cant be beat.. also pretty stable now. custsrvcrep 07-07-2002, 01:45 PM Since we are available to our customers via all four messengers plus messenger-less online chat, we use trillian .... and was glad to donate to trillian's development. It is a great program ... and I think it will be even better with the new version (which I believe is in Beta). Of course, it will be better if they took some of my suggestions and a few add-ons from my wish-list! :) Even if you only use one IM, you should give it a try ... it is a solid program ... And no, we are not connected to them, and no I don't get commission. But rarely do I find a product that I am willing to jump up and stand-behind -- trillian happens to be one of the few. viGeek 07-07-2002, 03:13 PM I use AIM. Its very reliable(unlike aol), it works well. And just about everyone has aol, I dont, so I interact with those aol users on aim. Vex 07-07-2002, 05:25 PM I use all of them. I mainly like AIM and ICQ though. They are both very nice. Marq 07-07-2002, 06:21 PM ICQ here. Just because Ive been using it since 1997. Some of the other ones like MSN and YIM to use in, bu just grew a custom to ICQ. Tetraboy 07-07-2002, 06:34 PM I use trillian here. Also a even better easier fix to stopping msn from opening. Just delete the msn messenger .exe :-D That's what I did. mlovick 07-07-2002, 06:49 PM I like MSN - just wish it had more emoticons :) NNHost 07-07-2002, 06:56 PM I HATE trillian, no one likes yim? :( APEXware 07-07-2002, 07:34 PM What's wrong with Trillian? I use it for all of the above messengers. As far as those stand alone messengers, I like YIM the best, AIM the least. GlideTech 07-07-2002, 07:44 PM Trillian all the way. I can talk to users on AIM, AOL, ICQ, MSN, and IRC. You really can't ask for more than that :) barrywien 07-07-2002, 08:01 PM Trillian seems to be winning - maybe i will give it a go Zutroy 07-07-2002, 08:05 PM I've had ICQ for ages, but never really liked it all that much. I've recently started using Yahoo Messenger ... like it a lot. Never got around to trying MSN or AIM. Checked out Trillian long time ago, but it kept crashing all the time so I dumped it. Studio64 07-07-2002, 08:06 PM I personsally use AIM+... A third party hack of AIM that adds a few decent options... One it removes the ads and the annoying tickers and pop-ups of AIM... Has a chat logging feature for remembering what the heck happened the last time you talked to someone... Neat transperency options for 2000/XP (Resource hog) Clone AIM, multiple usernames online as once. Only downside, is that there is a DLL built in (there is a replacement DLL provided by another 3rd party the removes the bad code) that will send your screen name to AIM+..... Well after that... Everytime you log on you get usually 1-3 Spam IM's about "free webcams", "see my site", etc. crap porn spam..... Aside from that.... it's a pretty great program... I've used Trilllian before... But, all of my old ICQ contacts have migrated over to AIM... So no real use for it now only to use the AIM protocal... But, it's a great peice of software none-the-less... (It's getting my vote). MTG 07-07-2002, 08:24 PM ICQ of course, because I have been using it since 1997  eddie 07-08-2002, 12:13 AM Only downside, is that there is a DLL built in (there is a replacement DLL provided by another 3rd party the removes the bad code) that will send your screen name to AIM+..... Here is the link for it http://pedram.redhive.com/advisories/AIM+/ Gem Hexen 07-08-2002, 04:09 AM Trillian, duh! xeosdd 07-08-2002, 09:03 AM I personally prefer running the seperate messenger programs as opposed to Trillian, which I do with three of them. I tried Trillian way back, and it just didn't work for me. Of them, MSN is the best, personally - it is stable, integrated well to other MS products. AIM doesn't like XP much, and the advertising is annoying. ICQ is well, the original, just a little too slow and makes the computer tick along a bit. No doubt I sound like a spokesman for the company or something, but Trill has come a very long way. If you tried it in earlier versions and didn't like it very much, you'll be pleasantly surprised to see what they've done. Don't fret...I didn't believe it either. LOL wmac 07-08-2002, 11:35 AM But is trilian stable enough? It seems to me that I do not receive some of the messages with trilian. Is it true? It has removed most of the features of all messengers to be able to fit them in one program. No emoticons. No sound..... But I will use it if I can be sure that It is safe, stable and has less bugs than the others. Can people tell me their opinions about its safety (trojans, viruses etc) and stability (running without problem, transfering all messages without problem?) Regards, Mac dustin[s31] 07-08-2002, 12:46 PM Trillian - All programs in one, why use them seperately? Even if you use just AIM and MSN, Trillian is still the best way to go. Regards, Mac I've been using trill for quite a while and haven't had a problem with lost messages. It does have emoticons and sound. You have full control over turning them off or on. I've never had it crash once. It's the same as any of the IM programs as far as the measures you should take to prevent viruses and trojans. It performs file transfers for all the protocols that support it. APEXware 07-08-2002, 01:04 PM Trillian has come a long way. A few months ago I could never get it to work right, sometimes it wouldn't stay connected to msn or aim, now in the newest versions it's perfect. And there are some nice skins. Actually I can only use MSN messenger now with Trillian, unless I'm on Trillian the MSN messenger client crashes every 2 minutes. graham 07-08-2002, 03:18 PM Trillian blows and so does YIM, MSN, and ICQ. More people use AIM so my vote goes for AIM. I only know one person who uses ICQ and he has to keep AIM running because most of his friends are on AIM. -Graham xharine 07-08-2002, 04:33 PM ICQ for me, don't know, am just too used to it. Tried Trillian for a short while...but just didn't get too friendly with it. Maybe I'll try again with later versions. =) NNHost 07-08-2002, 05:17 PM ICQ = BAD!! WebmastersHost 07-08-2002, 05:26 PM Trillian, has it all!! Alex[nl] 07-09-2002, 06:59 AM TRillian rocks (although setting it up is FAR different from ICQ).. and i use it for AIM/Y!/ICQ & MSN .. so all tools in one. .. really love that ... (& its easily skinable) Grace 07-09-2002, 12:46 PM I like Yahoo Messenger the best! :) I use ICQ for sending free sms only. mas3000 07-10-2002, 03:28 AM I use AIM, ICQ, MSN - so why not just use Trillian?? ho247 07-10-2002, 03:35 AM Originally posted by xeosdd I personally prefer running the seperate messenger programs as opposed to Trillian, which I do with three of them. I tried Trillian a month or two ago and I just found it too confusing to use, I prefer to use each one separately instead of under one interface as there seems to be more features and it doesn't get as boring if you've got several interfaces to look at, each one different. Alan iamdave 07-10-2002, 03:43 AM I like all, but I like Trillian's ability to control all of them at once. |
