Try Serendipity www.s9y.org - lots of 1-click plugins (no php knowledge required) , easy templating and a superb media manager with auto thumbnailing.

Wordpress is pretty much the best mate, easy to customize and has xhtml and css. I love to use it too, so easy to update and wide varity of plugins are also available for to ;)

wordpress is great as a blog, you will need to get some additional plug-ins to enhance the performance and SEO :)

In blogging, in my experience (and I guess in the experience of a myriad of people),

Wordpress has proven its stable positions as a primary choice of those both new or experienced in blogging.

Unfortunately, due to my recent start here, I can't support my opinion with useful

links to wordpress tutorials and the like but they are relatively easy to find in Google.

My vote is for WordPress. I've written my own blog script but if I didn't write my own I would of gone with Wordpress :)

Another vote goes to Wordpress. We've been together for 2 years now and I am very content with it - it simply has it all - skins, plugins...And very nice beginner-friendly tutorials to start with.

Hi, viclopez ;)

Compared to some other blog systems I've operated on, like Blogspot, ExpressionEngine, Textpattern, Wordpress is really a bit a database hog.
Anyway, the features this blogging system provides are in times much more valuable than those in the other alternatives. Personal opinion :)

thanks for all the suggestions, guys!

I have chosen and installed WordPress, but I am wondering if there is any better WYSIWYG editor than the built-in one?

thanks

Maybe you'll find your question's answer in this thread (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/72202) ;)

Comparing WP to Movabletype and Serendipity - which one would work best for templating? I am not a PHP guru and I noticed MT uses things like <MTEntries> so you can easily stick them where you want them. Do the other two ofter similar systems?

Unfortunately, I've never worked with Movabletype and Serendipity, so I don't have any useful feed to share, but your question, Jerett, got me interested and I hope someone will take the time to satisfy our curiosity. ;)

Not to be overly boring, but another vote for WordPress. It's really flexible, and easy to use.

I also use Wordpress and I am pleased with it. Didn't like it at first, but it's a good script. And Akismet is a God sent when dealing with spam comments

Dojo,

Will you get deeper about that Akismet? I am looking for any working ways to kill as much spam as I possibly can.

Wordpress stands out in the big sea. It's easy to use and you can get a free blog with them.
