Anyone can sit and nitpick someone else to death. That post shows more FOR Flohost than against it. Travis, IMHO handled the attack quite deftly.

Interesting...would you elaborate on what you mean? Do you think potential customers searching for a host would feel the same as you? Forgive the questions. :)

Merci,

Why don't you just handle your personal issues with flohost instead of trying to give his business a bad rep.

I would never consider doing business with you. Your just a trouble maker.

Nothing to forgive. :) From what I saw, it seemed as though this guest poster was forming more of an attack than really doing anything constructive. Nobody's perfect. Everyone has their strong and weak points. What this poster did, was pick several weak points and bring them up in a manner akin to muckraking.

It's one thing to have concerns about bringing your business to a hosting company. ( a good thing in fact ) It is quite another, however, to attack in such an accusitory fashion.

It is generally my instinct to be mistrustful of people who start off on the offensive in such a manner. That's only my opinion, though it is one based on quite a bit of experience both in and out of the online world.

I must also add that my personal belief is that it is much more difficult (if not impossible) to run a proper hosting company if one is going to school full time. The poster may believe the same, but it is hardly necessary to attack the guy like he's a snake oil salesman or something.

Just my $.02. :)

I can not tell you how much I appreciate your people's feedback. I know that it is a bad idea to have a hosting company while going to school, I did great until finals. That is the only time that I had any trouble with time. The problem is that where I live there is nobody interested in what I am doing and also the people that I know online could not be bothered with my hosting business. I am working on some things to make it better for my customers as I do plan on being away soon. I have a staff that I just brought on that is going to handle most odds and ends for me besides what the other staff do. My job is all-around so it is a hard position to fill. Once again, thank you for your support.

John,
Thanks for judging me. I am not the author of the thread on Flohost. I am a room mate of the person who posted it. I wondered what people's opinions where. This was my reasoning in posting here. I respect the opinions of those who frequent the boards here.

Thanks for the honest opinion. I told my roomie she was too overly sensitive. Evidently, she was offended by something Travis said.

she should think more about the service that you get instead of saying bad things that she saw around the board, Travis is doing a great job in my opinen (I should know, he's hosting me :D )...all because what Travis said before, she had to get all wided up about it, that makes no since, he's not doing anything that well harm himself or his Co.

btw...Travis, good up the good work ;)

Travis,

I wish you the best of luck with everything. You seem, not only to have yourself together, but also very honest and straightforward. Those are rare qualities in this business. :)

Travis --

From what I'm reading it seems like you have a lot of integrity. Hang in there, and good luck with your company. You have what it takes to succeed. :)

I would like to say something to this person, Merc's roomie:

I apologize if I said something offensive to you or to my customers. I did not mean any harm in my dealings with them. I know that I can be a bit moody at times, I know this may sound like an excuse but most people I know are moody sometimes and what they say can come across differently than they intended.

I do say things sometimes that offend people and I also realize that they do not always know why I do it. If you are looking for a host I am willing to host you. I want to make amends with you and possibly be a friend to you. I know it is hard to forget what happened but we could try.

I will let you make the decision, I do not want to force you to do anything that you do not want to. I am here for you if you need me and you can contact me on AIM or through the email.

My AIM screen name is: FloSupport
My email address is travis@flohost.com

Thank you for your input as to how I should go about doing things better. I did want the feedback and that is why I asked for it. I took what I could and I am ingesting it slowly.

That is about all that I have to say on this subject.

Not to excuse my roomies behavior but I do know she had a horrible experience with a host who was ripping tons of people off.Her opinions may stem from her experience with another bad co. I do not know how web designers choose their hosts. There seems to be so many of them available.Looking at what they have to offer wouldn't tell you if the company is reputable.I am searching for a host too.My roomie approaches everything differently than I do.I posted here to find my host.Which I am still looking for.

How does a newbie in web design determine what is a safe and reputable host? The choices are mind boggling!

Regards,
Merci

Are you a webdesigner looking for hosting just because it's an extra service to impress your designing clients (because I'm sure, being a designer before, that it makes much more $$ then hosting) or something you really want to make money from?

One more question I came across that I did not answer:

You asked how old I was, I can answer that question. I turned 17 in March of this year. I started Flohost in January. I was 16 when I started Flohost.

Good on you for being honest. There are many young hosts *cough* that pretend they're much older. I just hope you realise what an incredible responsibility it is to run a hosting business and how it's a 365*24*7 deal. Most young folks think they can whip together a website, get a reseller account and call themselves a "web host". Reality is vastly different from this fantasy.

Hope you do well. Think long term too. Like where will your business be in 5yrs time. Trust me, 5 years will fly by so fast. But don't forget to have a social life etc. You don't wanna be 26, burned out and yet to find your life partner. :)

being ripped off is not good...I've seen host around on the internet that well offer you this and that, but in returne, you'll need to have so many hits per day  I even seen some that gives you all this and that for a nice little monthly fee but when you god to sign up, it's much more then that. I even heard one of the admin keeps going in and changeing everyones HTML codes so that it'll be his. what's else that ticks me off from some hosts is that they say they won't give you ads on your site, what they do?? put ads on your site....some host are just too good to be true and hard to come by

Completely off topic, but that bulletin board software is the closest I have ever seen to vbulletin. There is alot of software out there that is similar, but this looks like a direct copy lol

It is called Woltlab Burning Board, my friend made some modifications to it so I could use vBulletin templates.
