We are lookig for a solution that will enable us to offer web based only e-mail to clients, while also offering the possibility to upgrade to POP3 access.

Preferably, we need support for:


Multiple domains
Automation of account creation/features
Admin access in several layers (a kind of reseller access)


This needs to be a stable and functional solution, that would enable us to maintain hundreds of e-mail accounts; most only with webmail acess, while others also with POP3.

Any suggestions...?

If your looking for a solution that will run as a dedicated email server then you should also check out Zimbra at http://www.zimbra.com/. It has a very nice webmail / collaboration interface and I believe it has the ability to restrict POP3 / IMAP access on a per account basis. Be aware that Zimbra is a resource hog though. It requires a pretty competent server to run smoothly.

As far as Zimbra is concerned, the pricing seems rather high though - do you know how the reseller/partner pricing model is? How about the number of account per server here; is it very very resource demanding?
