If he is happy with AcuNett, why is he coming to you?

I don't get it. Are you saying his script took down Accunett's HD?

Not sure if Acunett's TOS allows resellers to give away free space for advertising. That may or may not be allowed.

I guess, yes, that Flohost, means exactly that. That the script of that guy did the bad work all the way and knocked out Acunett's HD. Although is hard to believe that a script can do such a damage. From the quoted discussion, I understood that Acunett installed the script to the guy for trial reasons. Don't think that they will let him use it...it will be actually hard to let a guy open a free host with hundreds of sites in one resellers' account...and unfair for the rest of the people on the same server.

Although I don't think that Acunett is going to allow that. Acunett's guys are responsable and doing a great job. So no worries I think.

Who said Rob owned AcuNett? :stickout

Well anyway, nice to meet you Travis, you seem to be a great guy.

You wanted to know if you were being overly cautious, right? He sent you the script. Take a look at it, see what it does. *shrug* You never know what you might find.

Here's a link to the All Manage 2.6 script (download):

http://www.webmazter.freewebsitehosting.com/Files/A/All%20Manage%202.6.zip

You can always compare them.

Yeah, I definately would have wanted to get a look at the script myself. Interesting stuff though.

There are definitely scripts out there that could do this and even more without your knowledge unless you are closely monitoring them.. I wont get into detials however I would be interested to see if the script this person sent you is actually identical to the one available for download.

If you would like to download the script and take a look at it for yourself here is the URL:

<Flohost removed his own link>

I just had not got around to looking at it, maybe someone who has some time can take a look at it. When I told him what happened to AcuNett I realized I had made a mistake if I wanted to get a hold of the script. So, I kind of started asking for it because I did want to see if the script was dangerous.

All the files are dated 21/23-10-99 so none of them have been edited or changed at all.

AllManage is a program that will turn your website into Geocities or Angelfire. We have all the items that you could need, including set amount of disk space, auto or manual approval of new applications, limit number of accounts, full admin control, suspend, remove or add member and much more.

Brian

I wouldnt be worried about his script though, its a legit script and wont cause any problems.

even if its not what the script intends, sometimes CGI scripts can go a bit crazy, or have security holes in them...

I used this script back in '99 when the last versiono was released. Its a safe script to use and shouldn't cause too many problems. Maybe someone should look into further developing it. It has some nice features.

Did anyone ask you ? I posted something but then re-read the post and figured out the guy above was right so i ask my post be deleted.

Hehe sorry about that man, I thought you were being immature and posting in reference to my post. Usually when people edit posts there is some italic text that tells when it was edited and by whom it was edited by.

I guess that is what I get for thinking eh?

FloHost,

What was the purpose of this post, and more importantly, what was the purpose of posting a conversation you had with a potential client. Your post only shows your lack of professionalism with customer relations.

He had a very strange request, that I install a script for him.

Oh my, a host provider being asked to install a script? What is this industry coming to.

The user sent you script, you should have analyzed it on a dev. machine to see if it was acceptable or not.
Now, if the script was found to be malicious, this thread might be justified.

I think it is conniving of you to post this conversation in the eyes of thousands of members, without even informing the innocent person of your intentions.

The overall tone of your post seemed to blame the WHT user for the accunet crash.

You have also helped to damage the credibility of the WHT user and IMHO gave the user a bad reputation on WHT.
Note the thread title, "All Webhosts Beware"

Obviously the WHT member is not responsible and it should be your responsibility to edit your original post and apologize to the WHT member.

Sorry, but I did not catch this thread until now.

This script if perfectly legit, and I still have it installed on AcuNett's servers with no problem at all. The hard drive went down because of a hardware failure, which I don't believe is too uncommon at Rackshack.

And yes, I did contact DynastyHost and EarHost but that was before I even signed up with AcuNett so I'm not sure why I would be "pursuing others hosts if I was happy."

About my thread "AcuNett was down for hours..." that was not intended to bash them at all. In fact, I've been with them for about a week and I can tell you it has been excellent. They've been really flexible about the script and have gone out of their way to test some Apache mods for me.

I wanted the script installed because there are some paths which are different with different hosts. Such as the Perl, Sendmail, and other paths.(I believe) I thought it'd be easier since the the host(hopefully) knows all the paths and would be able to do it quite quickly.(quicker than I would)

I would never do anything to the script to hard AcuNett's HD. In a matter of fact, I don't think I even know enough CGI to be able to do that anyways. As stated earlier, that script was still dated from 1999 and I have not touched it since I got it. I'm not sure why FloHost is blaming me for AcuNett's HD crash.

Hope this clears it up.

- Mike

You might want to google for "allmanage.pl" - this script has a well documented list of vulnerabilities. Unless it's been updated, I'd stay far, far away from it.

In fact, here:
