Hey guys,
Why did WHT down too long this morning?

I tripped over the power cord, trying to get a beer from the Mod fridge....

We have been under a distributed denial of service attack since 4:18am EST. This attack has been causing intermittent outages for all iNET communities. We are working with our hosting providers to filter the attack. WHT is the target of this attack but there is a spill over affect with the rest of our sites.

At this time it looks as if the attack has subsided but it could pick back up at any time. This issue has had my undivided attention for about 7 hours now :)

I fail to see why anyone would want WHT down so badly. This isn't a controversial community or a secretive one, it isn't illegal or immoral. In fact the only conceivable thing would be a banned mamber who wanted to get his own back.

No wonder why I couldn't access WHT from Taiwan and my dedicated server hosted in Market Post Tower.

I think it is the network that was under attack, not WHT selectively. Unless there is someone else on the network who someone else tried to get back at, I don't see why WHT would be a target. Most network attacks are random and you never know who its going to hit.

WHT is the target of this attack...

Looks like it was WHT selectively. ;) Boy are we ever popular.

We have implemented a new mitigation solution and so far everything appears to be running great! I need to check later today to see if we have had any further attacks. :)
