I've been getting a few of these from some hosting companies too. I just go to their site and dig around for the admin email and send them a kind message that if they send any spam to me again I'll contact their upstream provider and the proper authorities. It usually shuts them up...

Spam Sucks and we all know it!!
But doesnt any one think that we should give the start up companies a break?
I mean...If a small web hosting company sends you only 1 email with a genuine offer....Is that so bad?
It is getting more and more expensive to advertise online and small companies cannot really afford to do this.

Opinions??

Spam is Spam, it doesn't matter whether small or big company sends it.

Of course, all offers are genuine; they don't send spam for fun, they send it for profit.

Yes, it is. Who needs unwanted email filling up their inbox? Charles works for a colo company -- do you think that he needs a "genuine offer" for a shared hosting account? No, he doesn't.

Ok...Point taken !!

I just think there is a difference between companies sending useless promotions for Credit Cards and Online Casinos, Porn etc. and genuine promotions eg. Web Hosts

Dont get me wrong...I dont send Spam...but I do however tolorate small companies trying to get a start in this very tough business.

But thats just my opinion!

There are two types of email promotion, one is spam, the other is genuine sales offer. However, a genuine sales offer must be after a research. That is, a company or sales rep should research on a company before sending offer.

In this case, if the sender of the spam did any research, he would not have send a shared hosting offer to the head of a colocation company.

I am all for proper sales offer; I myself do that sometimes as well. But blinding sending offers to a list of recipent without proper research is just spam.

The day you take over my payments for my email boxes, and pay me to read the spam you send, is the day that it won't be so bad!
F SPAM!

You just can't win, you just sit down for a nice dinner and the phone rings. Who is it? Of course it's one of them fast talking telephone spammers (telemarketers).
The blood pressure is starting to rise now. So go turn on the PC, check the email, and here we go again, the email spammers.
Who the heck buys anything from these people?
I certainly wouldn't buy a darn thing from those pests.

Absolutely not. Spam is theft, regardless of who does it, what their intentions are, or what their message is. Spam shifts the cost of advertising from the sender to the recipient, which is one reason that spammers and various proponents of direct email marketing are so in favor of it.

Another thing to consider - what if every startup in the country sent you an email today informing you of their amazing product or service that you simply can't live without. Then, what if they did it again tomorrow, and the next day, and so on? How useable do you think your email account would be anymore?

I don't know the numbers off the top of my head, but I've seen the math on this several times, and the numbers are staggering in terms of how absolutely flooded our inboxes would be if spam weren't only not frowned upon, but actively encouraged.

As it stands right now, the burden that spam puts on the network infrastructure is measureable and quite large, and is paid for by the network owners, and ultimately, their customers - NOT the spammers.

Thanks all the same, but I'll pass.

I have abviously raised the Blood presure in this room!!

"I AM NOT SAYING SPAM IS OK"

All I am saying is that "I personally tolorate the small companies sending "ME" mail because i know how hard it is when you are starting off!!....IS IT A FU**IN CRIME FOR ME TO THINK LIKE THIS?

If you want to report these companies....Go ahead!!....But personally I dont!!

I am one of the lucky ones that has financial support so I can advertise through the proper channels.

Dont slate me because I think like this....Each to their own!!

Peace!!

I don't see why you can be angry (or whatever tone you were speaking in).

You asked "Is that so bad" with reference to "you".

And you asked for "Opinions?"

Now, I and many others took on the positions of "you" and answered your question of "Is that so bad" and giving you our "opinions"

If you tolerate spam, that's fine. (as long as you don't promote spam). But if that's only your "personal" feelings, then why 1)post in a public forum, and 2)worse yet, ask for "opinons"?

you said, "I AM NOT SAYING SPAM IS OK" But really, from what I can read, that was exactly the feelings you were expressing.

If you "meant" to say that that is only your personal feelings, please re-read your own statements. That is not the impression you were giving.

May peace be with you.

Well, maybe your own, but that's about it. :)

People on both sides of the spam issue are quite passionate about the subject, and it shows in their posts. No one is attacking you personally.

"I AM NOT SAYING SPAM IS OK"

Actually, by condoning even small amounts of spam, that's exactly what you are saying.

[QUOTE]

Isn't this the place where people give their "personal opinions"?

I was just asking a question....Im not angry in any way but I dont like it when people assume that I send Spam just because I tolorate it!

First of all, you invited discussion on your "personal opinions."

Also, nobody says you send spam. Please re-read everyone's comment. We are merely replying to your "personal opinions" and pointing out why that was (in our "personal opinions") not realistic/logical.

Please don't assume what I and other said. We didn't say "you send spam" or anything of that nature. You seem to be misinterpreting ours as well as your own statements.

I do apologize for sounding harsh. I am sure you understand there is truly nothing personal against you. I and many others are just focusing on your "personal opinions," not you.

Well I think all of us were a small company at one time there is no law that says "Its ok to spam until you get xxx amount of customers" SPAM blows and I think its time to make a couple examples and start getting the message out that is it not going to be tolerated.

Not much.. You have probably been added to even more lists by replying to it..
