I read all these posts about $10 budgets...

But I need SPEED, RELIABILITY, SUPPORT, CPANEL, WHM...

• I currently host 12 domains.
• I need at least 10Gb of data.
• I could use a fair amount of bandwidth due to the regular transfer of 300-400mb files.
• Fast upload speed... I would like to see 100k/sec minimum in my FTP program.

any suggestions are welcome. i have been searching around here, but could really use the advice from anyone with similar needs or strong recommendations!

thanks
cue

Hi Cue,

Welcome to WHT.

In order to find the best provider for your needs, you should begin by making a list of companies who meet your requirements.

After you have compiled the list, send out sales questions to each company. Take note of response times and the professionalism of the answers. Cross any providers off your list that don't meet your expectations.

Next, search WHT and google for reviews on the companies. Large companies are expected to have a few negatives, so read the review carefully. Again, cross some names off your list based off what you find.

I would then follow up with additional questions to each host still on your list, and again use it to narrow your list yet again.

In the end, you should be left with a few providers which will make your decision much easier.

You can start by visiting the Advertising Forums and search through existing offers.

Long time reader, first time poster eh? - Welcome to WHT anyway!

Check out the offers section for some decent offers (stay away from the huge oversellers)...

Take time to research each individual company thoroughly. Emphasizing on what Vince said, you should shoot out some pre-sales questions, as well as some to tech support and other departments (if possible)..

Have you already determined a shortlist of companies you have in mind?

Welcome,

I also have some graphic design friends that I host and those large files can be killers. I suggest you get a really good handle on how much bandwidth you can use on a "busy" month.

As for your upload speeds those are hard to get consistantly, depending on the variables but your requirements should be easy to obtain.

Good luck!

Hello

You have a decent budget, for that price you should be able to get a plan which fits your needs exactly.

I would recommend you check out HostSearch.com, Webhostdir.com and tophosts.com as they would be able to give you exact leads on hosting companies which fit in your budget :)

Good luck with your search!

I recommend Hostdime. We are working with them for 7-8 months and glad their services. The connection to our server is fast from different countries.

ResellerZoom's Failover plan comes to mind, maybe look into that. Best of luck finding a web host. Be sure to take some time and get familiarized with them before jumping the gun :)

Do you have any estimate how much bandwidth required per month?

You have very realisic requirements. This should be easy to find in a good reliable hosting company.

I agree you can cancel the account with them any time within 30 days ... so i recommed give it a try ... and also you can check hostgator.com too

Fast upload speed... I would like to see 100k/sec minimum in my FTP program.

This all depends on how far you are from the datacentre. IE a if a client in the UK was to upload to a server in the US, the connection would be not as good as it would if the server was in the same country.

So Have a look for a host that have their servers in the same country as yourself.

i have been trying ewebzone for a few days. they seem great and their support is friendly and instant.

my one reservation is that they have only been around for a year. anyone else thought of them?

how about:

lunarpages
hostgator (i know they are a love or hate name)
blurhosting

i am still hunting of course

cueball73

they seem to have a great plan with that whole failover setup.

but

people seem to have some bad experiences with them as well.

i am also aware the bad news is reported far more often than good news.

any thoughts on these guys?

Well most of the user have reservation with the budget plan, due to several restrictions .. i never had any problems in failover plans.

however i will recommend that you should read TOS before signup ... as there are restrictions in this plan too

how is their speed for uploads?

kjawaid
03-11-2007, 08:33 AM
Well i am in Pakistan .. and using shared 256Kbps dsl connection ... So i get around 25-30 K for uploads through cute ftp.

If you have higher connection so you probably get higher speed too

cueball73

i may have it down to 3

resellerzoom - failover plan
lunarpages -
ewebzone

wildcard: hostrefugee? only because of how responsive they seem to be on these forums... i know little about them though... any thoughts?

kjawaid

never heard of ewebzone or hostrefugee .. but non of the companies except RZ is providing Failover option

cueball73
03-11-2007, 10:51 AM
hostnine
bluehost

i have been testing ewebzone and found them to be excellent... that said, the 1 year in business thing is a bit risky to me.

so, i think the new list in order of interest is

lunarpages
hostnine
bluehost
resellerzoom

nice to have 4...

cueball73

and again, i don't care too much about the money.

priorities are:

uptime
upload speed
download speed
support
reliability

Hi again cueball,

I see your search is still on, and I am happy that we are at least considered. I can't say much about our company here other than the fact we haven't had many reviews (good or bad). There's rules in place to keep hosts from talking about their own service :)

A few providers I have used in the past that I have had quality service from:
PowerVPS (Fast Support, Not sure if they have reseller plans)
Acunett (no longer accepting hosting customer, but were great when I used them)

Best of luck with your search :)

well, i have been with a batch of hosts and know when i am not getting a good deal.

right now, i am with a host that will not be named. the truth is they have been wonderful, HOWEVER, my upload speed to them has dropped to near "dribble" levels from many areas in the country, including my home ISP.

i thought it was my ISP until i opened a test account with ewebzone and had super fast upload speeds again.

so, thus began my search. i regularly have to upload and download 400-600mb files. so, i need super fast speed in both directions.

after reading more reviews, it seems i should stay away from lunarpages. one bad review is ignorable, but there is too much bad out there for that all to be BS.

If your worried about upload/download speeds, most hosts will be willing to give you a test file to download. That question should be included in an email to their sales department. Perhaps some of them would be willing to give you an FTP only demo account? I myself haven't heard of such a request, but I am willing to bet at least some hosts would entertain the idea.

About lunarpages, you might want to consider the dates of the reviews. I haven't searched for any, so I am not sure if they are recent or not. Perhaps they hit a rough patch and things are better now?

Another thing to consider, larger providers will always have their share of both positives and negatives. Keep in mind that *most* people are more apt to post a review if there upset about something, and really couldn't care less to post a review when things are fine.

cueball73
03-11-2007, 12:34 PM
yes, i agree. it seemed from reading tons of reviews that Lunarpages was everyone's darling for a while, but over the last year seemed to have tanked. most of the issues i am reading about are from the last year.

i have contacted servers about upload files, but have not been able to get test accounts for that. ewebzone was an exceptionn and i have to say, those files uploaded at 250k/sec sustained write from my location.

not too shabby.

also, their support was great. however, they are very new. (as is Hostnine)

cueball73
03-11-2007, 12:36 PM
PS resellerzoom told me not only could i not get a test account, but i would not be able to sign up and cancel within a few days for a refund.

anyone else experience this? if not, i wouldn't even try them.

well, it says money back for 30 days on their site. maybe the support guy was wrong :)

HostRefugee-Vince
03-11-2007, 12:41 PM
He was probably wrong. Looking at their site I see the 30 Day Moneyback guarantee as well. As long as you don't break any TOS, I couldn't see why they wouldn't give you a refund.

so far, the upload speed has been great, and support wonderful.

i am uploading one more large file to check download speeds from a couple of locations.

Thanks for your interest. We're quite proud of the premium services we provide and are hoping the word continues to spread about eWebZone -- our 7 day free trial seems to really be fueling the fire.

Answering your question, eWebZone has always been it's own independent company, has never been a part of any other corporation, and has no intentions of any merger.

This was previously discussed in this thread, for your convenience:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=520854

Founded in 1999 by myself, Alex Hijab, at the age of 17, we backed away from the spotlight while I aggressively attended schooling, and did not take on any additional clients. We re-opened in late 2005 and things are building strongly upon our reputation for unparalleled support.

Sorry for the long history lesson -- but I hope that answered your questions.

Thanks for your interest in eWebZone.

Kind Regards,
Alex H.

Alex

you have been great so far... man, you are 25??? boy do i feel old. that said, i started producing albums for people young, so there ya go :-)

so, my question is, i am getting phenomenal upload speeds, great support, however... the download speeds are slower in comparison to the other 2 hosts i am testing:

hostnine
resellerzoom

so far, your upload speeds from my location are the best at aprox 230k/sec sustained
but the download has been coming in around 200k/sec... as opposed to 1.2mb/sec for the other 2.

unfortunately, my work demands uploading and downloading huge files (400-600mb) on a fairly regular basis. any reason for the difference in download speeds?

also, if you guys get slammed with new customers, how can i expect that to effect performance, server load, upload speed?

thank you
rw

That's certainly odd, and not typical. I see you have accounts on two different servers, in two different datacenters -- which makes it even more odd. I just tested the downloads of both from external networks and saw no problems.

I recommend you contact our support department and they can troubleshoot the issue further by several metohds.

unfortunately, my work demands uploading and downloading huge files (400-600mb) on a fairly regular basis. any reason for the difference in download speeds?

Definitely. I completely understand. You shouldn't experience speeds that low. Both of your servers have at least 1000mbps uplink ports.

also, if you guys get slammed with new customers, how can i expect that to effect performance, server load, upload speed?

That's our number one priority as we continue to expand -- to stay ahead of the curve, and to not let it hinder upon the premium services we provide. Be assured that emergency arrangements have already been made in preparation of such surges, and we are fully prepared for the masses.

It's our goal to form long lasting, mutually beneficial business relationships with our clients for all web services. We value our existing clients business, and are unwilling to compromise on our level of service.

Let me know if you have any questions, or direct them to our support department directly at support@eWebZone.net. Alternatively, you can reach me directly at alex@eWebZone.net

Thanks for your interest!

ended up with resellerzoom...

i tested a few (ewebzone, hostnine, resellerzoom) and decided on resellerzoom for now. although, i have to say, both companies would be a solid choice for someone!

resellerzoom -

1. excellent, prompt support. i couldn't find a time they were not available via live chat
2. complete and prompt resolutions
3. blazingly fast upload AND download
4. end user support is a HUGE plus right now
