View Full Version : Multiple UserNames
porcupine 07-05-2002, 12:35 PM Hey all,
Has anyone else noticed out there that theres a few people with *multiple* WHT nicknames? I've seen a few that have 2-5 nicknames and use them all to advertise under different aliases, or post more often in offers threads, or what have you, whats up with this?
Am I going crazy or am i the only one really noticing this? :eek2:
dancies 07-05-2002, 01:32 PM I've noticed this too (but the mods are good about banning people when they catch it). I think it's painfully obvious why certain people do this...
"Well, there's egg and bacon; egg sausage and bacon; egg and spam; egg bacon and spam; egg bacon sausage and spam; spam bacon sausage and spam; spam egg spam spam bacon and spam; spam sausage spam spam bacon spam tomato and spam;"
:)
NNHost 07-05-2002, 01:40 PM is it against the WHT Rules ?, anyway... loads of people I Can see doing this..

porcupine 07-05-2002, 02:04 PM I see a few ppl with 3+ nicknames, the same first name (sometimes they have a basher nickname too if they want to start controversy over another host), and the same name on every account sometimes too (except the basher one heh), it seems kinda stupid to me.
BTW, jay, i dont want to single most of the people i've noticed doing it out, im just talking on a whole :)
viGeek 07-05-2002, 02:13 PM I agree, however it may be possible that two people physically use that computer and post on WHT. Such as myself, I live with my brother & his girlfriend and he posts on WHT as well. However he specefically told me, not to mention that we are related haha. I am the black sheep I suppose.
dancies 07-05-2002, 02:22 PM Just so everyone is on the same page, this is from the Rules page:
A maximum of one account per person, regardless of how many companies you represent.
I think that pretty much sums up the "Is it a rule?" question...
Dave
MattF 07-05-2002, 03:01 PM It's a rule. Check it out.
If anyone is using to get around the 5 day ad rule then it will be 6 month ban (including URL censorship). Feel free to report to matt@webhostingtalk.com or moderators@webhostingtalk.com. I'd take it as a delibrate attempt to fool WHT hence the harsh punishment. Come on report the creeps :)
Back tomorrow now so I hope to have a full inbox, lol.
tazd9t9 07-05-2002, 03:34 PM I had one banned a while ago ..................i admit i didnt read the rules properly. Howveer i did get the blame for a screnn name that wasn't mine and i never did get an appology for that just a "yeah it happens" Was also told i wasnt using an AOL ip adress which is funny cos i only use aol and it assigns dynamic IP's
Oh well never mind thats in the past :D
Chicken 07-06-2002, 09:24 PM This post: http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=297039#post297039 you posted from a non-AOL IP address:
194.238.50.21 - The host name is: webcache-17.ps.ifl.net
And yes, there was another user, named Jo, who posted from the same IP address (not the same as above), from the same area and before I noticed the error, that email was sent off. As I said, it happens. As I think I explained (not in so many words), this was a set of coincidental circumstances that doesn't normally happen.

If you don't report it or noone does and they don't care, heck... I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Most of the guidelines are common sense. I mean, don't spam, don't be rude, don't register for multiple usernames and recommend yourself, etc. They don't need explanation really, and overall it is just to keep discussion flowing at least how discussion should flow in real life and keep things even.
porcupine 07-06-2002, 09:33 PM Ahh, i was making reference to people who were registering multiple usernames to recommend themselves quite uh... discretely, and/or advertising for the same company more often under different aliases, etc. But i did eventually go and report it :)
porcupine 07-06-2002, 09:34 PM BTW, looks like you'll break 10,000 posts in the next day or two chicken, thats pretty scary , good to see im not the only one without a life :D
