View Full Version : I want to change contacts info...!!
Luminance 07-05-2002, 06:51 AM Heya,
I'm currently looking for a good domain registrar who allows me to change the contacts info (Billing, technical, registrant etc.).
DirectNic offers this, but they charge $5 extra if you want to change the cname, mx etc. records.
Are there any other registrars who allow me to change the contacts info? (reasonable price ofcourse)
thnxx!!
apollo 07-05-2002, 09:45 AM you should better look for a DNS provider rather than paying these crazy fees for MX record updates etc.
Please consider everydns.net for an example and have full control over your domain name DNS records ;)
TheOp 07-05-2002, 11:16 AM Most registrars allow this for free. Try stargate.com
Luminance 07-05-2002, 03:44 PM I heard bad things about stargate.. but do they allow you to change the contact info?
Continuum 07-05-2002, 03:54 PM Yes, we do allow the change of contact information including Registrant.
Tom
Stargate.com
FDrive 07-05-2002, 03:55 PM Dotster (http://www.dotster.com/) (my registrar of choice) allows you to update your contact info for free.
Acroplex 07-05-2002, 04:09 PM Stargate offers full editing of all contact info, paperless transfer to a new account and free URL forwarding.
What "bad things" have you heard about Stargate? Just because they rhyme with Watergate? :D
Luminance 07-05-2002, 04:37 PM I searched the forum and read many negative posts about them (some postive also ofcourse but mainly negative). What makes them differ from directnic?
Doster seems like a good company...
lgibsonusa 07-05-2002, 04:44 PM BulkRegister has free and easy contact changes.

I disagree, most negative comments were left by individuals that never used Stargate extensively. I have several hundred domains with Stargate in the past 2 yearas and the negative remarks left here make me laugh.
Luminance 07-05-2002, 05:07 PM Can I creat my own nameservers (ns1/ns2) for free with stargate?? I can't find anything about this on their website.

Yes you can.
Luminance 07-05-2002, 05:23 PM You have several hundred domains with stargate but timechange.com is registered with godaddy? why?

Ooooh, someone is looking for a "body" here :D j/k
Simply because it has not been close to expiration yet. I am moving my domains to Stargate as soon as they are within 1 month of expiration with GoDaddy.
Tom can verify this.
Also, timechange.us is registered with 000domains.com and the .info & .biz with GoDaddy. The .ORG is with Stargate and the .NET ...well, that's in the hands of a stupid speculator :D
Luminance 07-05-2002, 05:53 PM The registrar we were trying to contact could not be reached for your query. The request timed out.
I often get this message when I try to look-up a domain registered with stargate...

Where do you do your lookups? NSI? Stargate blocks many third-party requests based on traffic to prevent scripting and abuse. Try uwhois.com.

Tom, I must say though that even uwhois.com is not seeing things right. Look up LISH.NET - still shows my info after 6 days! Look it up at Stargate's WHOIS for the new owner info.
How often are you guys updating the WHOIS from your database?
