Ok,

A friend sent me this link earlier today and I went there wondering what it was.

"humanclock.com" is claiming to be running a Radio Shack 2.4mhz TRS-80 Model 100 portable computer, using a stripped-down version of the Apache webserver software (version 100-BASIC.12 beta) to power their website.

I found this extremely interesting. I'm just interested about hearing what the rest of the people at WHT think about this?

I found that a while ago

Really, that cannot be true.
Also if it really was 2MHz then how does it have mod_php4 and some other modules in it:eek:

I don't see why not. http://c64.cc65.org/ has been running a Commodore 64 as a server for ages. I just tried it then and it was down, but have been there in the past and it was working fine - albeit a little slow :)

The C64's never really died away. Those of us that remember it as our first 'computer' (and it's little brother the Vic 20), always have fond memories of the 'beige box' I have a friend who recently went and found one at a secondhand store just so he could relive his text based RPG games. :)

Was thinking that too. I was a little reluctant to respond here letting people think we run commodore boxes for routers instead of the NetIrons...

I'll tell you something. If you could wire up a thousand or so C64's and edit 'Elite' to run as a multiplayer online universe, you'd be a rich man. It's been almost 2 decades since that game came out and no-one's ever made a modern version of it that was accepted by the fans. "Independence War 2 - edge of Chaos" came close.

lol, what was the commodore 64 game, i cant remember it exactly but it was some kind of adventure game with a little man and you go around killing the baddies? and talking to people..

Their was another game with 2 tanks and it was multiplayer, well on the same console.

Mission Impossible was one of the very few C64 games that actually had voices in it, if that's what you mean

Well the commordore is still alive and well, I just sold plus4.com to someone really into it.

My very first 'machine' was a TRS-80 with 4k ram - we've come a long way baby :)

You could say that. :D

The image of it on the top of that page is 14k - almost 4 times the size of the entire RAM of the computer itself.

heh, thanks for the link.

A heap of memories there doing the level I basic 'course' in the handbook.

It worked well at the time, although I seem to remember the cassette deck needed a regular clean.

The hours I used to spend on this. 48k and beeps ;)

Used to spend hours copying basic from a magazine into a vic20 just to see a pixel racing around the TV

Sounds familiar to me, spending hours in punching in basic code from magazines. And then spending 10 times more in searching the errors and input mistakes...
