their reseller plans are really nice! But I don't like websites which are half finished... some sections still say: "coming soon"...

Do a search on EARHost and see what results you get.

That's because they're a fairly new host -- but all I've heard on this forum about them are very positive things. If I was in the market for reseller hosting I'd probably give them a try :)

Well people, i have been with them for nearly a week now, and they are great! James is a great guy, and he knows his stuff. I have posted two tickects on there Helpdesk, and they was answered very quickly. There servers are very fast ( me thinks ) and they dont suffer from much downtime ( non yet )!

James,

This is really an absurd idea...

We are waiting untill we get enough support tickets to pick out which are the most common asked questions.

...and while you're at it, your clients are going around in circles looking for answers, filing tickets, posting in forums, waiting for replies, and guessing what to do next. I should know, I 'm one of them.

There are a lot of good FAQ pages out there (HTTPme.com is one), why don't you look at one and improvise. You don't have to be original in giving basic FAQ support.

By the way, the last time an Earhost staff answered a tech question in the EH support forum was 5 days ago. It would be really cool if you'd spend as much time in your support forums as as you do in here in WHT.

Peace.

Edit:

I have been thinking about goin w Ear also..
The forums do not leave a good taste in my mouth..
BUT if you really had that major a issue you would've
submitted a ticket!!!! I don't think his forums are his "main" support arena.

I was leary about that "Free hostway" thing....
but after looking into Hostway they seem straight (if only they would answer pre-sales ?'s (its only been a week+ w/ no reply)

All in all Ear seems like a great place! ;)

Yes, the forums are for general discussions, NOT support.

BUT if you really had that major a issue you would've

EzSnake, don't you think we tried that??? I have a ticket there almost four days now unanswered...and this gets better...I logged on to EH Helpdesk just right now to see if my ticket has been answered...guess what, It's gone!!!

So tell me fractiousws...when a customer don't get his tickets answered and always see the "Human Click" offline, where would that customer turn to for answers and support???

is it...

(a) Post it in the Earhost Forum hoping that an EH staff would spare a little time answering questions like they do in WHT...

or

(b) another Web Host

The obvious answer is B.

Why??...you say?...

...Because according to Mr. James Hynes the forums are for general discussions, NOT support....so (a) is not realy an option.

TheMMIz

Just a comment about your support issue. I had received an email stating that support tickets had been deleted by a third party. You might want to log in and re-enter a ticket.

Good Luck.

ReB
07-10-2002, 11:16 AM
TheMMIz, thanks for that info. However, the mere fact that my ticket then was unresolved for days coupled with James' weird philosophy about customer support, raises a lot of questions on what future holds for me with Earhost.

I really feel like re-entering any ticket seems a futile exercise. So instead, I'll just do myself (and probably earhost too) a favor by asking refund and moving on.

I need to know.

LOL. This is so serious & funny !
I read good opinions here & went ahead & ordered a reseeller plan.
Paid him via Paypal. There were probably 1 or 2 email related pre-sale requests like what's your Paypal name ?
Were answered within HOURS I guess.

After paying James, on the 7th of July, I have not yet been setup or recd. instructions regarding the details of the account.
Today's the 10th... that's 3 days !

Unacceptable 72 hrs setup.
Reading from this thread it seems James & gang are having problems.

1. James you surely forseen that, and should NOT have accepted payments or atleast declared status before accepting orders.
2. I'm yet with you, give me a cleaar indication of what's on & I hope you think it worthwhile to work together and better the relation !

Looking forward !
PS : I've sent more than 4-5 emails I guess.... in these 3 days.

Im hosted with Earhost, and have been for 2-3 weeks now. I do find there service great, but the always offline chat and forums with current probs, they would defiantly put people off. Howveer they do provide a great service, and no-probs once i had been setup! Setup took with in 10 mins of me paying via paypal!

James seems to be very responsible and (most important) honest. Out of curiosity I uploaded a PHP script with the phpinfo(); function. I got quite a slap in the face when the System info showed:

Linux EH-server2.earhost.com 2.4.18-5.49 #1 Fri Jun 14 13:58:45 EDT 2002 i686 unknown

I was a little surprised by that... James said it'll be fixed ASAP, and you can be sure I won't put a single client on the server until that is fixed...

ceo
07-12-2002, 02:27 AM
I got that on clicking the server info..... in the WHM.
I've not understood it fully well.
Could you please explain that to me....

JustinH
07-12-2002, 03:34 AM
Basically most reseller servers use domains like server1.anonserver.com... That way users can't trace who you resell for. Unfortunately, the tech that setup the EARHost reseller servers, made is use the earhost domain EH-Server1.earhost.com, the problem with that is, it makes it VERY simple for a user to figure out who you resell for.

An example, anyone that knows very basic PHP can do the following:

<?PHP
phpinfo();
?>

And know exactly who you resell for :(.

Dear James,

I've registered an reseller account in Earhost.com about 30-36h ago. When can I get the e-mail that contains my account info ?

My domain is : biz4vn.com

I'd emailed you 3 mails, but there's no reply.

ceo

Thanks !

Oh, I just completely missed that out.
LOL

Maybe because I plan to use 99% of this for my own sites rather than resell, so it's kinda ok with me.

Only kinda though, cause I'm waiting for an answer to my Private Nameservers question sent to them over 4 days now ! ; )

Maybe I made a mistake : 30 hours - 36 hours, not minutes.

Here's the time that I placed my order with EarHost.com

Sent: Thursday, July 11, 2002 1:00 AM
Subject: earhost.com: Signup Invoice/Receipt for Vi Khoa Duong

And after that e-mail, there's NOTHING till now.

I'd sent them 4 e-mails, +1 ticket in their HelpDesk, and the last one is on the way : a cancel e-mail :(

Their price is good, but this is a BAD impressive for me. I've been with AletiaHosting, SplashHost and they are very good till now. All my accounts were set up within 6 hours after ordered.

Just some experiences for you all.

All customers that have recently signed up via paypal send us a email with your transaction number and we will have you set up asap!

To those that are already with EARhost over the past couple of weeks I apologize, our support wasn't the best and we are very sorry. Like he said, if anyone requires a refund just let us know and we will issue it right away.

About two weeks ago, I came to this forum looking for information, because I was looking for a new hosting company. I came across Earhost and started looking at your site, and I was excited about what you offered. Thankfully, I didn't jump into anything. It seems that all has been downhill every since.

I note that at one point in this forum, you state that your own forum is not for support, just for chat. Isn't that a bit ridiculous? Even if it is not for support, shouldn't you at least take the time to tell people who visit what is going on? You seem to spend more time here than on your own forum.

What I see on that forum makes me cringe to think that I might have opened an account with you. There is one post on there from a customer who got a response back from a support ticket saying you have run out of IP addresses, which explains why new accounts are not being set up. Doesn't this border on fraud, selling accounts when you cannot even set them up? It sounds like you just might be a bit undercapitalized.

On the "About us" page on your site, you say: "I like to live by the words 'The customer is always right' and 'One mad customer speaks louder than 1000 happy customers'." Shouldn't you be thinking about those words? Because right now it sounds like you have a whole bunch of mad customers, which amounts to a whole bunch multiplied by 1000, according to your statement.

I would strongly urge you to spend less time here and go to your own forum and address the questions there. It is not a matter of support vs chat, it is a matter of explaining yourself and defending your reputation, which at the moment appears just a bit on the questionable side.

Those that defend you on this forum say you are a nice guy and easy to work with. Go to your own forum and prove it.

This is my experience with earhost.com so far:

I signed with earhost on july 10. I got (phony? mistaken?) login & account setup data some hours later... so I opened a ticket at their perldesk... then another, then another (I don't feel like posting them all, it took a long time for each one to be replied to with a "looking into the issue" type of thing anyways), then:

12-7-2002-12:50 (ME) - I still cannot access WHM with the login/password provided, All I get is this: Access Denied

12-7-2002-03:41 (Tim, EARHost.com) - Looking into the issue.

---------------------------------------------------------
TODAY (July 14!) Tim has responded to my ticket:

Time: 14-7-2002-3:01
: You can't setup your own domain we have to do this for you. We're currently
out of IPS and currently waiting on some.

Thanks Tim,

WHOA!... So I cannot setup my 18+ domains on my OWN, with my reseller account???? . You may wonder why I am so frustrated? well, I had (have?) a reseller account at cyberwings (yeah, I know, please don't reply anything about cyberwings), and decided to sign for an emergency reseller somewhere else. So I chose earhost, as I was told they were a great choice. I don't think that handling the setup of every domain on that list with it's own specifications would be a smart choice, not even if they responded to trouble tickets in a matter of minutes, and not hours/days like right now.

James, please if you read this contact me ASAP, and let me know if this is how it will be from now on or if I can get the functionality I paid for in a reasonable time... if not, please use the refund button available at the payment processor used for sign up and cancel my 'account' Thanks, Virgil V. I think what that means is that some resellers set it up so that the main account your acount only has to be setup and modifed by them, then you can setup all your other accounts yourself.

Might give em another chance, as I know IP addresses were a bit slow in coming from the data center. I am sure they should have a fresh supply. Maybe email James and ask him to set you up right away.

Yes you can. You just click on "Create a New Account" in your WHM and setup the domain yourself.

I don't know why a host would not let you setup your own domains. It's a huge time saver for us hosts in letting our clients setup and manage their own domains.

Wait for 1-7 days while they strengthen their support team & such. When James/Earhost come back here & say we're ready you have a beeter chance at good service.

I think that the point was that the username/password combo that was sent to that user wasn't working and they could not access their WHM to create the accounts.

Hello Again... well, when they told me I cannot create accounts on my own, they were talking about accounts for my reseller account. Of course I have a main domain setup already, that's all I can access at this time. All the trouble tickets sent were regarding my access to WHM and account creation, therefore, the "we have to create them for you" means exactly that. I still have no access whatsoever to WHM.

Is this ODD? yes it IS. Is it a confusion? I DON'T THINK SO, AS EVERY MAIL STATES CLEARLY MINE IS A RESELLER 2 ACCOUNT, both theirs and mine, as well as the charge made to my CC, and the welcome message, which gave me login and password details for Cpanel and WHM (albeit non-working). I could post every mail & ticket sent back and forth, but that's beyond the scope of my post. James, any updates on this? no 24/7 here... it looks more like 1/5 (one hour a day to check for trouble tickets, monday thru friday). I'm so sad this isn't getting anywhere... I really am. :(

Their last answer was the one I posted. It was a definitive answer to my trouble tickets (started on July 11, a day after signup). Now I just sent an email asking the same question at the bottom of my first post in this thread. I hope the answer is that somehow everything got confused and that these 5 days of nightmare will end at once. I just want to have access to WHM, that's all :(

Tim, any ETA on my problem? I have several domains waiting to be setup, and it's been over 72 hours since I signed up and not being able to do much with the account. If it's needed just delete everything, I'll setup my main domain myself as soon as I have WHM access. Please, Please SOLVE this ASAP. Thank you.

It's all on your perldesk, James... BTW, there's a response here, but no response back there whatsoever.... I still hope it can be solved somehow. The product is great, but support just isn't there.

I strongly recommend against getting an account with Earhost. I signed up with them and it has been nothing but one thing after another. Their welcome e-mail contained insufficient info for me to get started. PLUS it had the wrong DNS servers. I had to practically beg and plead for support. Now I'm having the same DNS problems as this other customer and getting completely ignored. Earhosts forums are overrun with people bitching about the company yet Earhost is reading this forum more than that one. Plus, they say that forum is not for support yet they link to it from their support section. These guys have no freaking clue how to provide customer service.
