Hi Folks,
I'm thinking of setting up a local marketplace as part of a community-focused web site - think on-line store plus auctions for a local community.
The thing is, I'd like to extract a commission on every sale - the way that Amazon does when you sell through Amazon Auctions or Amazon Marketplace. It seems like a natural way to take advantage of building a user community.
It seems like it's easy to:
- set up to resell Amazon products and get a commission
- set up a store using Amazon's e-commerce web services - makes it easy to set up the e-commerce services, but Amazon gets all the cash running through them, and they don't pay commissions
- set up a store in various way, where people use PayPal or another merchant service - but again, no commissions coming my way
What I can't seem to find is a situation where I set up the marketplace, using somebody else's software and services, but get a piece of every transaction (I'm not greedy - Amazon takes $0.99 plus up to 15% of sales through Amazon Marketplace - I'd love to set up a re-labeled version and take 2-3% of sales.)
What I'm looking for are suggestions regarding:
- marketplace and auction software (open source preferred)
- payment processing solutions that support the above model
and/or
- 3rd party services that pay commissions
Thanks Very Much,
Miles Fidelman
