View Full Version : changing hosts, need one with Tomcat who should I pick?
genevaroth 07-04-2002, 05:30 PM I am currently with hostculture and they don't support java servlets so I have to leave them.
Who should I pick? That has a good rep, supports those servlets and had a decent reseller package? Or just a host that has microsoft everything.
Any suggestions?

Hi genevaroth... You might want to try posting your host request/inquiry to the Web Hosting Request (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=32) Forum here.
Hope that helps!

genevaroth 07-04-2002, 06:06 PM Ya, I don't want to. This is not a an invitation for solicitation. I am wanting to go with a larger well know company.
I just wanted to know whose host allows it and their experience.
RackNine 07-04-2002, 06:16 PM Unfortunately this is asking essentially the same thing. To find a good host you're best bet will be doing your own research rather than relying on what I can only imagine are slightly skewed oppinions here :)
Plenty of good Tomcat hosts around, it's very easy to install though I've been told a little tricky to optimize.
Sincerely,
-Matt

Yeah, that was basically the point I was making. Check out sites, like hostindex.com and a few others that I can't think off the top of my head, see what looks good to you, and the come back and ask here if SO and SO is any good. ;)
And yeah, at SOME point I'll get around to installing it myself. Dealing with Real Audio/Video issues right now for a client.

genevaroth 07-04-2002, 06:49 PM ya I think I am just feeling lazy, and I really hate changing hosts.
Jedito 07-04-2002, 07:03 PM I don't think that you'll find one of those Bulk Reseller plan allowing JSP/Servlets.
Tomcat its resources intensive, and letting to reseller to add tomcat support to all their account its just insane and dangerous.

Its not very easy to install, neither to config, and less to maintain it in a shared enviroment.

Yep we just got hold of TomCat on our new servers, although not going to give it out on our reseller plan, all hell could be breaking lose!
genevaroth 07-04-2002, 07:37 PM I need this cause I have to interface a MS SQL dbase on a clients Point of sale system and we would like to keep using linux and MYSQL with tomcat in the middle- I cannot find anyone that has anything good to say about Tomcat and I am thinking that I might be better off on a windows system.
better off on a windows system- man that sounds weird.
Jedito 07-04-2002, 07:55 PM Tomcat is it good, but I wouldn't use a host offering Tomcat in bulk reseller package.
mybiz 07-05-2002, 01:16 AM Head on over to http://www.javahosts.net/
They are a new site listing java hosts ;-)
