Greetings all,
I know this has been discussed before about not using/installing forums until there is a client base large enough to support it (keep it alive).
However, I was wondering if a forum was used for announcements (not company news, but server upgrades, etc).
Does anyone know of a better option (preferably other then a mailing list)? Thanks.

I would use a smaller system than a forum for announcements, there are many small news application over @ http://www.resourceindex.com just for that.
Good luck

We use Mojo for announcements, and our clients love it. Here is the URL

We use a forum for announcements and all of our clients have been happy. They are also able to ask support and informational questions (which they do).
We are simply providing them with the option.
If you were building a community, sure wait until you have a large user base, however providing a way for anyone to ask you a question really is key. Every query we get on the forums is answered in under 20 minutes (so far, don't test me ;)).

Yes, the forum would be mainly for announcements related to the servers/network and maybe pre-sale questions. Community would be great, but that would not be the goal of it. Wonder if it would work better that way...
(Getting ready to post on your forum... ) :stickout
Anyway, thanks everyone for the help.

Why not use a simple news script?

We're more focussed on building a community around a hosting product. So, the forum is the place where we meet and interact with folks. They might want to interact with us in a pre-sales capacity or asking for support or anything else for that matter. It's the central meeting place, the central dispursement of all information.
Websites [IMO] will evolve more to a "forum_style" where it's an exchange of information rather than a mere presentation of information. I think the head of VBulletin is thinking along these lines too, and they are well positioned to capitalise on this next push. :)
