View Full Version : Modernbill -> Clientexec
1Host 03-02-2007, 06:04 PM I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has made this switch. Did you migrate your client base from Modernbill 4 (or 5 I guess) to Clientexec? Why? How's it working out for you and your customers? Also interested in hearing from anyone who has extensively evaluated both products and decided to stay with one over the other and your reasons for that decision. What does one offer you that the other does not? I've had MB 4 for a while now and have been looking into making a change.
Thanks! :)
1Host 03-02-2007, 09:32 PM Also, does anyoone know if CE has a downloadable trial version available?

No, they don't have any trial version available.
Why are you thinking of moving off ModernBill?
NitOxYs 03-03-2007, 02:19 AM Yea Really, I found MB alot better than Clientexec

Hi,
The *better* would be the best for your budget and specific needs. :)
I believe whmcs.com is quite good.
Regards.
SBHS-Scott 03-05-2007, 07:35 PM Personally I chose CE over MB - I even tried to switch to MB after I initially chose CE (tested it out for a few months), but I just didn't like it and couldn't get it to work for me how I wanted it to.
I've been looking at WHMCS lately, but I think I'll just stick with CE.
Funkadelic 03-05-2007, 07:47 PM I'm using MB5 and I love it! Clientexec is a little low in the food chain as you don't see many hosts who aren't resellers using it. Most hosts will sell it as part of a reseller package.
waturl 03-08-2007, 07:04 AM Hi,
I used MB, CE and whmcs. i can surely rate whmcs, (little budget , skins, good support, more features...ect
native 03-08-2007, 12:10 PM We are setting up a new cpanel hosting company.
We plan on 1,000's of clients. We need a billing program/reseller program that works, has good support and will not be out of business in the next 12 months. aka Lpanel. They are not answering sales questions. I loved this product when I looked at it at a trade show, sad.
I have contacted whm autopilot and whmcs, on the surface both have nice software, however the support, (no phone) appear to be one person a or few. I always ask "What happens to our support if you get hit by a truck?" Is not a harsh question, a 1,000 of my customers are going to depend on having continued support and upgrades. I can't post in a forum and wait hours for answers.
Now, Modermbill did answer the phone and provided a professional appearance. I'm just not crazy about their software.
What we need is, automated, cpanel intergrated, reseller friendly, handle more than one server and reliable support. Price is the last item.
I have been looking in this forum for weeks and had finally decided on whmcs, until I became very concerned about support. Matt, the developer/owner, seems sincere, but I have been unable to get an answer on the company size or my question above.
Right now, it looks like even though I don't like the modernbill software, that might be the way to go.
I want to thank you for your time and your replies to my post.
Funkadelic 03-08-2007, 12:17 PM When choosing billing software. Support how nice it can be isn't something I think you should focus on. It's the quality, feature availability and customizability toward yourself in the billing system that really matters.
In the end, support isn't what is going to make you your money, it's the billing system itself.
Now you've pretty much mentioned all the big players when it comes to billing and if your not satisfied with any of them then I'm afraid your outta luck :-/
jerett 03-08-2007, 02:03 PM CE is a great product as well. It really depends on what you are looking at offering your clients (service wise) and how you are wanting to handle automation, etc.
WebDomain.com 03-08-2007, 06:38 PM WHMCS all way long!!!
Maybe It has less promising features than Modernbill but it works. And it works today!
Modernbill is simply the biggest scam ever.
They are absolutely unprofessional, unable to held the promises they have done for 4 years, they don't have any consideration for they long-time paying customers and are only able to cash your money and ask you to shut up your mouth until an hypothteic (and pathetic) possible stable release in an unpredictable future.
As I explained previous thread (which was unfortunately too early closed), avoid Modernbill at all cost!
In my right hand, if you look for a professional service, a competent developper, a product that will manage effortless your bills and a friendly community of users, choose the blue pill: WHMCS.
Otherwise, you may like living dangerously, you may believe you should pay to be considered as a beta tester and you may want to buy a non-usable and not-even-a-beta product then choose the red pill and go with Modernbill.
You were warned ;)
native 03-08-2007, 08:14 PM I'm just not happy with anything I see out there. However, whmcs, seems to have more features, seems straight forward. LiscensePal is going to do the full package.
I'll report back in a month.
Thanks again for your input.
LemCorp-Nahuel 03-08-2007, 09:35 PM I've tested and used MB 4 and now I'm using ClientExec.
The reasons? Well, CE is very easy for the user, the Client Interface is what I'm looking for.
It works fine, never had a problem and I'm using it since Novemeber or October 2006. Really great Software, also very editable, for example, I needed a payment plugin for my local payment processor and I've made it with a little php knowledge.
MB on the otherside, have a lot of features (Whichi I really don't need), is expensive (it's always good to have a few bucks to save if you can), and it's very difficult to setup it, and also the CI is quite confusing.
Have my CE integrated with the loginshare from Kayako ESupport and I couldn't be more happy! :)

I've used MB, CE and WHMCS, and I have to say that WHMCS is much better:
Easy to use
Easy to modify
Great Support
Isn't overloaded with useless confusing features. If you're looking for a billing system that does what it says, WHMCS is the way to go!
