BrianF 07-04-2002, 04:45 PM Modern bill or Ubersmith?
I'm really wondering which one to go with because I'll only be using it for a few people. Ubersmith is only $99 for under 50 people too!
--Brian
ho247 07-04-2002, 04:48 PM On their website... doesn't it say $99 per month? So ModerBill would work out cheaper in the long run.
Alan
BrianF 07-04-2002, 04:50 PM No...
Call them and ask, it's even in the contract. If you have under 50 accounts there's only a 1 time setup fee of $99.00.
--Brian
ho247 07-04-2002, 04:58 PM Ahhh, I see... I didn't know that, but thanks for informing us of it. Since it's only $99 one off payment for Ubersmith, I can see why you're tempted by it, compared with ModernBill. I've not used either product, but from what I've read and seen, Ubersmith may be the better choice at the moment... but remember that ModernBill have some really cool features coming soon, including the integration with 2 popular control panels and even OpenSRS.
Alan
BrianF 07-04-2002, 05:01 PM The only thing I was really concerned with about Ubersmith is the fact that they host it on their server. So I was thinking, what if they go out of business? And I asked the sales rep at Voxel and he said that others have asked about this and expressed the same concern I have and that they will give the customer a copy of the program to run on their own server should anything happen.
But after 50 "packages" there's a $99/month fee with Ubersmith.
ho247 07-04-2002, 05:06 PM Yeah, you're always limited to the 50 packages if you don't want to pay monthly. Over a longer period, ModernBill would probably be the better choice since it's only slightly more, but you know how matter big you get, it'll always be the one off price and no additional costs... olus there's so many positive comments for ModernBill here at WHT.
Alan
BrianF 07-04-2002, 05:08 PM I've heard it's extremely buggy, and that's basically my main concern with the software.
Plesk support isn't that important either...I'm not even sure what it would be used for? Once you set them up in MB they have an account setup in Plesk as well?
--Brian
modernbill 07-04-2002, 06:04 PM Thanks for all of your great comments folks. :)
As for the buggy issues, we did have a few versions that were not too perfect, but those have all been resolved in the latest release v3.1.2....and we do offer a 30-day money back guarantee if ModernBill does not work for your billing needs.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Yes it's a great piece of software hopefully admin will take me up on my offer over at their forums :)
Or maybe not :bawling:
MatrixRS 07-04-2002, 06:50 PM MB has been great for us.. We have used it since 1.9.2 i think it was.. I like it better then all the others really.. :)
modernbill 07-04-2002, 07:02 PM Myacen, PM me the thread you mentioned.
NewMerchant 07-05-2002, 03:40 PM Sounds like a great deal. Backed out right before I pushed the send order button.

Is this ready yet? May want to advertise when you have it working with the latest Cpanel/WHM.
This makes it worth the investment.
modernbill 07-05-2002, 05:46 PM Here's an update.
Now that v3 is out and running great, we are working on our new API wihich will allow for 3 types of plug-in modules:
1) Server
2) Registrars
3) Gateways
The API is between 2-4 weeks from being completed. Once that is done, we will either write the modules ourselves or out source them if need be. Current clients will have access to all modules as usual and we have yet to determine if future modules will be released in whole or in part. (That depends on the market demand at that time.)
Please let me know if you have any more specific questions about how this will work.
NewMerchant 07-05-2002, 05:51 PM Super.
Wow... Sounds like your busy. Soon as the pluggins /Cpanel WHM are out of testing and working.... You'll have us as a customer as well.
Sounds like this will soon be the best solution for quite a few.
"Current clients will have access to all modules as usual"
If we purchased now, what would be the cost of getting the Cpanel/WHM pluggins when they come out? Would we get those as part of the price of the program or would this be an additional charge? If more, do we have a ball park yet? Just wondering what the access to the modules consists of.
Thank you for the update,
Much appreciated.
NewMerchant 07-05-2002, 06:22 PM For those that currently use modernbill, how did the integration into your current site go? Header/Footer or a way to completely integrate the signup form etc... into your site?
modernbill 07-05-2002, 06:48 PM > what would be the cost of getting the Cpanel/WHM pluggins when they come out?
We have no current plans to charge more for them for current clients. However, we may bump the price of ModernBill a bit, but that is no where near definate and depends upon the market demand at that time.
> If I have 3 servers and modernbill on just one, will the API for setting up accounts on the other servers work?
This really depends upon the connection function of the cPanel module. If cPanels API allows for HTTPS connections, then yes this is possible. But if they (cPanel's API) requires the modules to access only at the loacal file level, then no.
Does that help?
NewMerchant 07-05-2002, 06:58 PM Hi Modern,
Yeah, I guess it kind of helps as long as you don't have to have 3 ModernBill licenses for 3 servers. The Cpanel licenses for 3 servers is quite enough. ;)
Thanks for the info.
CobaltConn 07-06-2002, 05:50 PM Maybe you can answer this question for me..check out:

Thanks...
Also..updates are free for 6months..can we continually by the $19.95 every 6 months to get updates?
modernbill 07-06-2002, 06:14 PM > Also..updates are free for 6months..can we continually by the $19.95 every 6 months to get updates?
That is correct.
NewMerchant 07-06-2002, 07:23 PM Hey Modern,
How flexible is the plan type setup? Would this work for other services other than virtual hosting such as dedicated and co-location plans? I would think that it would work, but I wanted to ask anyhow.
Thank you,
modernbill 07-06-2002, 07:34 PM > Would this work for other services other than virtual hosting such as dedicated and co-location plans? I
Yes. You can configure almost any package you want in ModernBill...there are really no limits. If you want to invoice it, just create a package for it.
NewMerchant 07-06-2002, 07:37 PM Ok. I'm going to try this. Here I come.
modernbill 07-06-2002, 07:48 PM :) Don't forget the coupon code.
NewMerchant 07-06-2002, 07:50 PM I have 5 grand available on this card. I have been denied twice so far.
NewMerchant 07-06-2002, 07:55 PM It worked. Darn Cvv2 numbers.
