View Full Version : Opinions about Valuehost (UK)
Dr_Michael 07-03-2002, 05:22 PM I would like to hear your opinions about Valuehost (http://order.valuehost.co.uk/start.php?uid=14416) in UK. I just registered to them for 1 GB of space (12 months) and the prices/services seem very reasonable and fair to me. What do you say?
Dnslinux 07-03-2002, 06:06 PM They do offer: Unlimited Monthly Data Transfer and there is no such a thing, however, that aside, they seem resonable.

I asked them and they answered:
"Traffic is unmetered but it is important to stay within 40-50 Gb per
month."
Paul-UKWSD 07-04-2002, 03:40 AM So they are advertising unlimited transfer but set a limit of 50GB?? That seems like its limited to me.

is there any hosting server who doesnt care about traffic and has really unlimited? 50 GB are good I think. I have not yet reched this limit.
Yep, I don't understand why they are advertising something that's not true.
In their forum, they say :
"For Dedication Edition ~100 GB per month.
For Home ~30 GB pm, for Professional ~60 GB pm.
Depends on current network status (overloading). "
You can read it HERE (http://www.valuehostlounge.co.uk/showthread.php?threadid=115).
I don't find text about the 99.9% uptime guaranteed and I don't like this :
"Any web site that uses a high amount of server resources (such as, but not limited to, CPU time, memory usage, and network resources) will be given the option to either pay additional fees (which will depend on the resources required), reduce the resources used to an acceptable level. Valuehost shall be the sole arbiter of what is considered to be a high server usage level"
"Any web hosting account deemed to be adversely affecting server performance or network integrity will be shut down without prior notice."
edude 07-04-2002, 03:56 AM Without prior notice? thats a bit harsh.

I think that all attempts should be made to inform a customer - but if there is a BB running at 90%CPU 100% of the time then I think we (as hosts) should be entitled to at least put a stop to the BB for the sake of the other customers on the server.
No?
Shrill 07-04-2002, 05:20 PM I was thinking about joining up to Valuehost.co.uk myself actually... they seem like they have some pretty nice deals going on.
One of the things that worries me at the moment about them is their unlimited bandwidth offer that is supposedly around '40-60GB/month' or so... also I wouldn't mind getting a demo or a look at their control panel, but they don't have one to show or use. They also don't use PHPMyAdmin as far as I can make out, which is also a shame, although they do have some form of MySQL manager.
Good things about them are their speed... well for me at least, their pages (and their client's pages) are lightning fast at loading. And of course their price is great for all the features and webspace they offer.
I've seen some decent reviews on them, and their own forums seem quite positive (if a little empty at times).
Anyone else use them or know anything about them?
Thanks in advance.
edude 07-04-2002, 05:48 PM Good point Mlovick, end the bb's life but not the whole account :P

<smug> Well... I must admit - I have been known to chmod 000 a number of directories in my time.</smug>
Dr_Michael 07-04-2002, 06:03 PM I asked them. Take a look at their answers (http://www.valuehostlounge.com/showthread.php?postid=372#post372).
One thing is sure: They have very good speed, very good service, they reply to emails unbelievably fast, and they have good prices. This is my 2 months experience.

I think their answer is fair enough.
AL-Benjamin 07-04-2002, 06:18 PM my thoughts:
The site needs to be redisgned. its grim.
I don't trust anybody who lists unlimited transfer. If they state it elsewhere then its not unlimited transfer.
Their prices are un realistic. They can't sustain hosting at those prices.
