This discussion might be a little bit off the beaten path.

Do any of you find yourself trying to make something out of nothing? I was given very little content, literally one small logo and 8 sentences to create a classic myDOMAIN.com page for a company that brings users to Outlook Web Access links and support center links. I’m having difficulty making an entire page that satisfies the corporate standard with such little content. The only good thing is that I’m not limited to a narrow color scheme; it just needs to be blue.

I guess I am trying to say that I am struggling with background\noise development. Have any of you had to deal with this before? Any ideas on how to liven up a page with so little?

Thanks,
DLee

You will find that this is a standard in all customers but at the same time will give you the opportunity to trigger your creativity. This is only a suggestion, try to see what is doing your customer's competion take the concept and make it better.

What we usually do is to fill it with some related blather, and then ask them for corrections to the text. Most folks can correct something about themselves easier than they can come up with it out of "thin air". They don't like to talk about themselves, but I've yet to find one that couldn't or wouldn't correct things I've written on thier behalf.

I've created sites in the past from a business card and nothing else. ;)

It happens. You can go one of two ways - talk to the client and try to get some more content (also I would include you making the content in this path) or work on a design that makes that little look like a lot. Perhaps even a combo of both; that's where your job as a designer comes in. With this being a portal page of sorts, you have some options.

Very impressive :agree:

Anyway, DLee, in your situation, I would probably choose to build that original website first, empowering my imagination to the fullest :) and then would ask for any comments, corrections, etc.

By the way, the matter is not that tough, indeed. Minimalistic websites are still in fashion. ;)
