Hello,
Just wanted to see if you guys would consider this:
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=122998
It's got a few key features that I think would benefit this community:
* Requires users to accept the rules (again) before making their first post. BUT, you can set it so the "Accept" button isn't available until after X number of seconds (to give them time to read the rules ;))
* You can make individual members have to accept the rules again in their profile. This is good for users that need to refresh their memory on the rules.
Thoughts?
It won't do anything. People with either read the rules or not read the rules, and the number of times the rules are flashed in their face will not change that. Just like in hosting, you can make somebody agree to your ToS 10 times before you activate their account, but when it comes time to cancel, they will still fight you on your cancellation policies.

Yes...but I think it'd help a little. When you first register, nobody reads the rules (at least I didn't) and that little "Rules" link at the top isn't very conspicuous. I think if they can't post til they read it (and they cant accept the rules for X seconds) then it might help to increase awareness of the rules.

But how many people actually read the rules when registering? All they have to do is click the 'submit' button. At least with this, they have to wait X seconds before clicking the submit button.

No they dont even read the rules if they dont want they only wait
Not everyone reads rules or agreements when they sign up for a forum. Same for licenses for software they install. In fact, I read about a company that buried in their license agreement that "the first person to read this will recieve $$"...took quite some time for to be claimed as I remember it.
Forcing them to agree a second time won't make them actually read it.

What I don't think people are understanding is the difference:
1) When registering, you just check the box and click submit
2) With this hack, you cannot submit saying you've agreed to the rules for at least so many seconds...this eliminates ANY excuse that the rules were not presented to them because A) they were presented and B) they had to wait before they could submit to accept them so they cannot say they "overlooked" them
Let's see how the poll goes. I think this could be beneficial.
