Please advise. goodness0001 07-03-2002, 08:49 AM I offered to buy 8 servers from them all at once if they would throw in some IP addresses for free and they wouldnt do it. If you ask me that seems kind of petty. phpjames 07-03-2002, 09:22 AM Yikes...you think buying 8 servers at one time they would do anything to get your business and just give you IP addies. Did they give a reason? hitspot 07-03-2002, 10:45 AM I have considered purchasing a few servers from them, but the downside as I see it is that they tack on too many little fees. They are clearly trying to avoid providing excessive support (which is to be expected by an unmanaged server provider), however, personally I would do so by providing a clear policy of what is a valid support issue (such as hardware problems), and not charge extra per event. goodness0001 07-03-2002, 01:03 PM Well i was only asking for like 25-30 IP addresses at the most, they said the reason they wouldnt do it is because it takes man power to create and add all the IP addresses. I told her that it only takes a few minutes and that i would be responsible for loading them into the servers. The sales person didnt even try to make a deal, she wouldnt budge so i walked away. They need to realize there are many fish in the sea and that going with them at this point in their short life would be going out on a little bit of a limb. seg fault 07-03-2002, 01:49 PM A charged reboot takes >4 hours to complete clocker1996 07-03-2002, 01:55 PM lol wow that's bad sandguy 07-03-2002, 03:54 PM Hi guys, I just ran into this thread... lemme straighten somethings out... 1) We do not have any Cogent bandwidth. We wouldn't be able to meet our 99.9% network uptime SLA if we used them. ServerBeach is 100% Cogent-free. 2) We do not have any "special deals" - what you see is what you get. With the overall volume that we're moving, 8 servers is way below our threshold to break the mold. If pricing comes down, it'll be available on the web site. 3) We have a commitment in providing great customer service. Technical Support is a different matter. Normally it would make sense to quantify what it is we do and don't do - However, at this time we do not offer any Technical Support. This will change in the future as we gear up that part of the business. 4) Reboots - we are a small company and we try our best to do things quickly. Things will improve shortly, we have a plan. With all that said, ServerBeach has been growing by leaps and bounds - we're doing better than we had ever anticipated! Thanks to everyone for making ServerBeach such a huge success. sonic 07-04-2002, 06:50 AM Sandguy , could u help me on the pm I sent you please? although serverbeach isn't providing technical support, there is nothing I could do on my side to that problem .... it's either a ip problem or serverbeach network/router misconfiguration problem ... goodness0001 07-04-2002, 04:51 PM 2) We do not have any "special deals" - what you see is what you get. You cant tell me people are offering to buy more than 8 servers from you on a daily basis from 1 customer. if you guys are getting these kind of customers great, but at least you know now what made me walk away from you. BurtonHost 07-04-2002, 04:59 PM Sounds like they either have loads of customers buying more servers than you goodness2001 or they just can't afford all the hardware costs (with their no setups plans) and you buying 8 servers, in which case you may want to choose somewhere else that has the established network, growth capital and technical support at no extra cost to you. You may also want somewhere that has APC reboot if their reboot speeds are slow. Personal recommendations: eServers.bix tranxactglobal.com smartwebservice.com You may want to email all three of these companies to see what they can offer you for 8 servers (I know smartweb 5 or more gets a discount and 10 or more with tranxact gets you a discount) Also, all three of these companies have free ips with justification for ARIN. sonic 07-04-2002, 06:46 PM serverbeach's server connection is good but not the technical support. however, they do work on July 4 (a holiday!!) and helped me a lot on my server problem . I believe they will become better and better in the near future . Bot 07-04-2002, 07:15 PM I have read that Serverbeach = Rackspace. That's true ? Tazzman 07-04-2002, 07:21 PM Serverbeach is located in an ex-rackspace datacenter. Serverbeach is not Rackspace... Bot 07-04-2002, 07:42 PM Ok, thanks :) dadymac 07-07-2002, 05:30 AM well its 430 am here in austin, and i cant connect to my box w/ serverbeach nor connect to serverbeach.com although its their first downtime that ive run into sonic 07-07-2002, 05:32 AM me too haha be patient ... but hopefully they are in the data center right now (this is Saturday) but this is a good chance to see how serverbeach reacts to this okihost 07-07-2002, 11:34 AM No tech support at all? also the reboots sound like admin1 gets a page at 2:00am, admin1 gets up gets dressed and drives to NOC admin1 reboots servers drives back home and goes to sleep.. that really sucks.. I mean I know there is a ton on anti-rs people out there but if you wanna go cheap atleast get what you can.. RS has <15 min reboots now.. InterServ-JB 07-07-2002, 01:01 PM Maybe they need to spend a few hundred bucks on an APC MasterSwitch:) They are about $350. zdwebhosting 07-07-2002, 04:22 PM thier sites up for me seg fault 07-07-2002, 11:56 PM I think you all got your answer "we currently provide no technical support" If you want to run a profitable business - serverbeach is not a viable solutions imo sonic 07-08-2002, 08:44 AM I hope they can provide some basic monitor service so that we will get noticed if servers are down ....... like send us an email regarding httpd is not respoding ..are u working on the server right now ? do u want us to reboot server for ya ? I always get those messages from dialtone . and they phoneed me at 3am to ask if I have any problems regarding a previous help ticket . however ,now I am pretty sure those serverbeach people are in data center most of the time (at least in July 4 and Saturday) . Serverbeach is not bad at all . You can still make profits . I am pretty about that. BurtonHost 07-08-2002, 08:53 AM there's plenty of free programs about for you to monitor your own software. e.g. scripts.clook.net is one of the good free ones i have used. seg fault 07-08-2002, 07:46 PM Serverbeach and dialtone are not in the same kettle of fish Server monitoring software doesn't cost any money - put it on the server yourself raq4less 07-08-2002, 08:11 PM Originally posted by goodness0001 I offered to buy 8 servers from them all at once if they would throw in some IP addresses for free and they wouldnt do it. If you ask me that seems kind of petty. Shoot !! :D To sell 8 servers to a single customer, I'd let you have "vanity ip addresses".... I'd even try to spell you name in IP addresses! :D |
