View Full Version : cobalt admin apache corrupted !
Hi, my cobalt apache is corrupted so I can't access the /admin, /siteadmin or /personal anymore. I've been trying to fix it for a bit now but with no success. I don't want to do a restore. I've got no sites on it. Does someone know how I could restore the original files by hand ? If it would be possible could someone post here a backup of the cobalt apache tared and tell me the right commange to untar it keeping the right permissions etc ...
I know there are quite a few gurus around on the forum,
Could someone please try and help me. Maybe even reinstall apache... but I wouldn't know where to start.
Thanks in advance ,
Hoot
mhosang 07-03-2002, 05:44 AM Here is a script to solve this...
cobalt aid (http://cobalt-aid.sourceforge.net/scripts/)
siteManage-fix.tgz (http://cobalt-aid.sourceforge.net/scripts/RaQs/Rebuilding/siteManage-fix.tgz)
I haven't tried it, so use it at your own risk!!!
Good luck!
WOW! thanks ! I've got nothing to lose so I will test it streight away !!
By any chance do you know the commande to run a pkg from ssh ?
Thanks
mhosang 07-03-2002, 05:53 AM there is a thread in this forum....
/usr/local/sbin/cobalt_upgrade PACKAGENAME.pkg
Thanks, well I've just seen that it's not a pkg. But at the moment the search option on this forum seems to be disabled !
Well, I've run it, got no errors and have rebooted the server, I will soon see if it has fixed my poblem ... !
Well I'm afriad that it didn't work :( well the /admin and /personal and /siteadmin still don't come up, I thought that a reboot should start up the admin apache, maybe I have to start it by hand, what is the command ? Thanks :)
I've just read a bit deeper, the script isn't for restoring apache but for restoring the admin pages them selves, the /admin, /personal and /siteadmin files are all OK but the apache that allows them to run is not,
Any ideas ?

Can you reach http://www.yourdomain.com:81/.cobalt/sysManage/ ?

No, I think that it's on the admin apache too ...
All I need is to somehow rebuild apache !
Hi, can't anyone help me ? I guess that my next solution is to try something like taring the admin server apache from my raq4 and sending it to my raq3, I bet they are not compatible, but does anyone know what the tar instructions would be to keep everything with the same permissions etc ...

If you do a simple tar --create --verbose --filename=XX.tar folder/files to tar
then gzip it, you should preserve the structure and permissions, though it might not solve your problem.
Have you tried the Sun Cobalt forum?
jahsh 07-08-2002, 07:20 PM have you tried this as root#/etc/rc.d/init.d/admserv restart
Yes we get an error saying something like apache shouldn't be run as root but I have checked it and it is not running as root but apache ...
I'm rearly lost with this one and am wondering if there is a way of reinstalling it ...
mhosang 07-09-2002, 10:52 AM Hi
I've found this rpm on the net...
apache-admsrv-1.3.20-RaQ4_1C1.i386.rpm
but i'm not sure, what it does.. so USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!
You can download this rpm from my page:
download rpm (http://www.energyweb.ch/patches/apache-admsrv-1.3.20-RaQ4_1C1.i386.rpm)
GOOD LUCK!
Do you remember where you got it? I've got a raq3 not a raq4...
I'd like to read some doc about it before installing it ...
Thanks !
mhosang 07-09-2002, 11:26 AM I think I found it in the
sun - forum (http://supportforum.sun.com/cgi-bin/WebX.cgi?/cobalt.raq.general)
