View Full Version : Can a locked domain be transfered if I have Auth code?

I have been moving my domains away from registerfly as I can afford it without problem to a couple days ago. Now all my domains are locked and even though I unlock them and they show to be unlocked in the registerfly CP WHOIS shows them locked even after 3 days. Not to mention I can not make any other changes such as set name servers etc now.

Is it possible to transfer a domain that is locked if I have the EPP Auth code for it?

No, the domains must be unlocked before they can be transferred.

Have you tried a 3rd party WHOIS service to see if the domain is still locked?

I have the reverse. My sites are unlocked, which I didn't do and I can't lock them. But I have no auth code, because it is not there. So I am stuck with them in a different way.

Looks like they are making it impossible to leave them.

Yes I have checked with a couple whois sites though i usually use dns stuff. The whois is not updating to what it shows in the CP.

Yes it does look like they are making it so that you can not transfer away from them.

Hello,

The domain can be transfered only if the status is active. If the status is locked then the domain cannot be transfered though you have an EPP code.

The status if is locked then it means the ownership of the domain is not with you, but with the registrar.

Thank you.

You need codes to move it too

Hello,

The status if is locked then it means the ownership of the domain is not with you, but with the registrar.

Regards,

I am not sure that you are correct on this part.

If you own the domain you can lock it and unlock the domain on your own.

If you own the domain the registrar should not be locking it for you unless that is the default that they have there control panel setup to do. If this is the case and it usually is you just need to unlock it.

Now with Registerfly are you sure your unlocking issue is not due to them moving domains around since they are moving away from Enom. They are themselves transferring all there domains away from Enom. So they may have a global lock on all of the domains they are transferring right now.

So you may need to ask them about this.

I've transferred all my domains away from registerfly as I've acquired them in the aftermarket. I just had reason to login to my account to ensure my credit card info is no longer valid and noticed the Security Options under My Settings. I've no idea how long there been there, but they look pretty draconian. You can enable/disable your ability to unlock/lock domains. So those of you who are unable to change the status of your domains might want to checkout My Settings>Security Options to ensure they can do this on an account level before trying to change the locked status on any one domain.

I just tried it and it does not make any difference but thanks for the idea.

Same thing, domain shows to be unlocked (inside CP only not to external whois) so I try to lock it and then unlock it hoping maybe that will reset it. But when I click on lock then hit update the domain still shows as unlocked just like it did before.

They have locked them so we can not change it. Heck we can not even set name servers.

You might want to wait 24hrs and try a third party whois server again. Sometimes these things get caught up in isp's dns caches.

I wait 24 hours, you cannot trust whois for fast change showing.

It has been 4 days now and they are still locked, it is not updating the database.

You should keep trying. Here is a good link on how to transfer away from RegisterFly... http://www.rightdomains.net/transfers/how_to_transfer_domain_at_registerfly/
