View Full Version : Upgrading Apache under Ensim?

Hello,

Well, since the recent Netcraft Webserver survey showed that "the internet is more vurnable than ever" , mostly because of the Denial of Service Apache bug, I am really wanting to upgrade my Apache...

However, the problem is, that I am currently using Ensim (don't ask - my sponsor wanted it) , and I was wondering if it's a go or a no-go upgrading Apache (since I'm currently using WebAppliance 3.0, which uses Apache 1.3.19) under Ensim...

I couldn't find a free upgrade/patch/bugfix/whatever package on the Ensim site, so basically, I think I will have to rebuild it from source... however, is this even possible? Since PHP is compiled within Apache, I think it must be pretty hard doing so...

Anyone ever did this before? If so, how long did it take you to figure out which directory structure etc Ensim uses?

Thanks in advance!

That patch is for LS 3.1. I don't know if they released one for 3.0 or whether the 3.1 patch will work on 3.0 (I doubt it)...

Hmmm...

I'm just being blind - I just saw indeed that they released a 3.0 patch for Apache.

Thanks folks!

Go to the site and follow the instructions for Ensim. The update is pretty simple.

Yeah, I've done it now :)

Still, I'm wondering... for example, if I want to upgrade PHP... is that even possible with Ensim?

It should be. Just find the correct RPM or compile from source. Just about everything is upgradable on a server because if there isnt an RPM you can just compile from source and run the latest version.

Yes, but also under Ensim? I got the feeling everything is just MADE for eachother in Ensim, and if I change one thing, that others will find conflicts and such :)

Never tried it though...

I wouldnt think so but I would go to the rackshack forum just to make sure. You can give this question a test at the other forum but my question back to you would be why would Ensim make a control panel that wouldnt allow you to upgrade features/functions of the server. There would be clearly security holes, upgrades, bug fixes in server software and I wouldnt think ensim would make the mistake of doing this as they would have to support every little change. Good luck.

I found this wonderful thread at the Rackshack forums:
