Avoid DomainsAreFree / ******.

I just received an "Automatic Upgrade" offer from them in which they told me the upgrade offer is so wonderful they will automatically charge my account for it in 12 days unless I go to their website and choose to opt-out!!!!!

First chance I get I am transferring my domain (I only registered it with them and definitely don't want their hosting) to GoDaddy!

My point is this:

1. I registered a domain for $3.99 at DomainsAreFree.com aka ******.com
2. When I registered the domain I declined all additional services (hosting, mail-forwarding etc.)
3. Today I suddenly received an e-mail from ****** telling me that if I did not go to their site and opt-out within the next 12 days, they would automatically charge my credit-card for a one-year $35 hosting package.
4. They justified their decision to charge me on the basis that it is an incredible "upgrade" offer which all customers will want to benefit from.

There are 2 things I find unacceptable in their tactics:
1. If for any reason I did not receive their e-mail, they would proceed to charge my credit-card and I would need to go through the hassle of getting a refund from them.
2. I never authorized them to make any charges against my card other than the original $3.99 domain registration charge.

there is another thread about this, many of us have had the same problems, even worse, I was given 1 day's notice.

In all honesty, this automatic charges are not only visible in web hosting but also in other businesses as well. I have been with ****** for 2months now and i have availed of the terabyte extreme. Although I am far form having my web site upgraded, this issue of charge-backs is something that most of us customers should be aware of. I tried asking about the issue and they said that they would inform me thru mail before an action could be done. If the emails were not responded to, that's the time that they do the automatic upgrade. This is just a matter of keeping yourself posted on any business transaction These are simple business protocols that we should accept and if not know the details.

What do you expect for $3.99 registrations? FWIW, I expect this kind of treatment.

Many threads about ****** / Domainsarefree. I have seen like 1 post being positive (which was probably them posting anyway!)

You should have done research before using them. This company is not to be trusted in any way.

You are more than welcome to your opinion Lindsey :)

I didn't actually recall who it was who posted the "postive" review about them. Its good you shared your honest experience with us.

Honestly, I'm glad you have found someone you are happy with...I truly hope they do not rip you off.

However, I stick by what I've said in previous threads - This company is a flat out danger to deal with - A simple search of this forum will reveal a plethora of threads and posts depicting exactly how this company works.

They are fraudsters and that is simple as it is.

EDIT: And just for those who are fortunate enough to read this thread before attempting to use Domainsarefree / ****** please take a moment to read the following threads as a mere sample of their antics:

Aside from the automatic upgrade rip off issue, two months ago I had the terabyte extreme.I have just signed up last week for an upgrade to terabyte xs for more domains.... What do you think about it? Is it a good choice? Anyone can help me on this?

Yes.. that's why I also wonder my most web hosting and other online businesses do this. Its really typical of them. ****** says that they would inform you with three emails for cancellation. its better to know the whole deal and getting informed.
