I currently have a dedicated server with www.ezzi.net.
I wish to move from them to a bigger and better setup. Having looked around, the best options I have been able to find so far are with RackShack. Then I cam across this forum and have read a couple of disturbing threads about rackshack. I am shore that there are probably plenty of bad experiences with other providers as well, so i figure the best way to decide is to just ask for your imput.... Who is the best value for money with reliability?
I am searching for something that includes Plesk.

Thanks in advance
Paul

I have been very impressed with eservers.biz - Their service to us has been absolutely fantastic so far and we are getting further servers through them, I believe they do plesk too - I highly recommend them :D

same here RooMeat

If you really need support - do not go RackShack, otherwise they are great and I am getting another dedicated there soon.

I dont really need that much support ( I have a couple of online friends for that.. and you guys :) ) but are RackShacks systems and network reliable? I have been looking at one of there Celeron systems... only downside is the outrageous setup fee.
Whatever i get, It must have Plesk... its the most reliable and secure :)

I have a Compaq server with RackShack and my experience has been nothing but great. The network is fast and having 4 separate Gigabit connections helps the reliability a lot.

The only thing to watch out for is support. The servers are unmanaged, but I find that all the help I need can be found either at webhostingtalk or the rackshack forum. Everyone has to decide for themselves it that's enough for them or if they prefer a managed option.

I would recommend taking a server with an Intel processors, because the AMD boxes at RS are known to be less reliable. If you can spend the extra bit of money get a Compaq because it's all A+ quality components. They are a terrific value for $119/129.

About the setup fees: RS sometimes has 1$ setup specials, but you got the be fast because they are sold out quickly.

Just reading through some of the other threads, I have found www.serverbeach.com
Seems as if they are offering probably one of the best deals I have been able to find so far. everything I need including PSA 300 domains for $119.00 / month... sounds good

I've seen good things posted about serverbeach, but as far as I am aware they only offer cogent bandwidth - plenty of providers are cogent only but I'd prefer to use a provider who has backup in case cogent goes down.

I didn't think Serverbeach uses Cogent at all

All of my traceroutes have been through swbell.net

Just a note. Traces outside of their network doesn't really show you much. Going in they could go through Level 3 or UUNET but coming out could be 100% cogent or some other low end provider.

i believe serverbeach has stated before that they only have an oc12 (or 3) from swbell. a local bell in their area in texas.

i have seen no mention of cogent anywhere close to serverbeach.

another thing about serverbeach is i believe they dont allow custom config or anything

You get exactly what's on the page

You can't like, upgrade the memory or anything =(

RackShack have a link called bargin basment, you can get 1$ set up fees if you are patiant and lucky enough :)

As for speed - they are not near as fast as a few others I use, but I would not call them slow. I've only been with them for a month so not much experiance yet.

This is not true. ServerBeach is 100% Cogent-free.

To be honest, we considered Cogent, but realized we would be unable to provide a 99.9% network uptime SLA with them.

This is true - What you see is what you get.

Keeping our model simple allows us to keep our costs down so we can pass the savings on to our customers.

So why is it that you find the need to charge for IP's.
Modt places I have looked at so far supply between 5 and 8 ip's straight up. Even RackShack will supply the first few free as long as they are justified.
I'll give you an example.
I run to seperate hosting sites, But they are run off the one server. My personal views tell me that a hosting company "looks" more professional if they have at least 2 name servers rather than 1, Yes i know you really only ever need 1...but thats my view. So with that in mind... 2 hosting sites = 4 name servers = 4 IP's. But that would mean that with serverbeach, I would be paying a extra $75.00 setup and a extra $7.50 per month.
