View Full Version : Cheap Hosting Companies
Hi there.
Currently I'm looking for a hosting company which
provides me following spec:
1.10mb disk space
2.Unlimited or over 5 GB bandwith(I'll have so many links
in my site)
3.SSI/CGI
4.Unix Server
5.htaccess control(protected directory and custom 404 page)
6.Budget! around $5.0/m
I spent hours to find good companies and here's
results:
#cheap and webspace is free with the domain registration.but NT, can not use htaccess
http://www.supanames.co.uk/
http://www.gnxonline.com/uk/ (when I asked them about detail of their hosting, there's no reply..)
#cheap and Unix webspace is free with the domain registration.
http://www.one2host.com/home_uk.htm (but Bandwidth is limited 0.5gb/m :-o)
#Other
http://2ninety.com/ (but Bandwidth is limited 1gb/m :-o)
http://www.5bucksamonth.com/(25mb/UnlimitedBandwidth/Unix/CGI...)
http://www.iboxhosting.com/(10mb/UnlimitedBandwidth/CGI/SSI...)
5bucksamonth and iBoxHosting are seems the best company so far.
Has any body got experince with these hosting companies?
Any information will be help for me. ;)
Thanks in advance.

Martie 02-13-2001, 02:56 PM You might try looking over this list of hosts.
Word of warning though..best not to fall for hosts that offer unlimited bandwidth! No such thing. You might find info in their terms of service, etc. More than likely, you will end up going over their UNlimited bandwidth and possibly you will be left with no site. Sometimes cheaper is just not always better!
Good Luck!
heres the list
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=3053
Thank you,
I'll check that thread out and TOS as well.
If any of you have got an experience with
those listed companies,it would still be helpful
for me.
IF I found any other nice hosting companies,
I'll post here.
What I'm interesting in also is:
If my site has got many links, should the traffic
of other websites (through my site) be included
my bandwidth...? or if the websites located in
other servers, it should not be counted as the
bandwidth..?
I asked one of these company and received reply like:
'If your site inflict damage on our network or servers,
the you need to move or upgrade your site....'
Still I can't see exactly the TOS regarding this...
Cheers

If the site you are linked to is not hosted on your hosting account, it will not affect your bandwidth. Only pages, graphics, email, etc that passes from your account will effect your bandwidth.
SI-Chris 02-13-2001, 07:11 PM You may want to look at http://www.5dollarhosting.com. The fellow that runs it posts here fairly regularly.
ccobalt 02-14-2001, 01:05 AM http://www.your-site.com
I signed up one of my faculty members there since it was inexpensive and recommended here. I have to say they have been great on the service aspect. He is very new to this so he has asked tech support a lot of questions and they have answered every one within the hour. I believe the plan that I signed him up for was 50 megs with 6GB transfer and has everything you want. Servers have been fast and we haven't seen any down time yet. We paid $60 for a year of service.
Thanks , Marty, ccobalt and Martie.
I just had a look these company:
http://www.your-site.com
http://www.5dollarhosting.com
they're seems nice and your post are
really help for me.
I found another company:
http://www.top5hosting.com/
They provide $4.95/m , 10mb hosting. When I asked some questions, I received a reply within a day(not enough?).
Also I received a reply from gnxonline.com.
Any experience with these companies?
I should be careful since this is the first time to
buy a webspace.....
Cheers
http://www.supanames.co.uk/
They are planning to introduce
unix hosting(currently NT hosting only)
at the end of February.
If they achieved a free hosting with the domain
registration service, it would be attractive
for me...
At the moment , they are providing the
domain registration (15/25quids) with
free webspace(NT, CGI/SSI/SP/25mb, what to say,
"Unlimited Bandwidth....).

Chicken 02-20-2001, 01:23 AM People, please read the original thread (and the rules) before posting!). Sheeeeeesh.
Ah-oh, iBoxhosting was here. Hello!
I still keep my eyes open and am looking for
a hosting company.
There's other companies.
Webhoster
http://www.webhoster.co.uk/index.html
25 quids/year although the bandwidth is 1gb.
Hostyard (as you know at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=5996 )
http://www.hostyard.com/
$30 /year 3gb bandwidth
Anyway, I registered my (first) domain(.org) at http://freeparking.co.uk
which I found in http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=2916 .
It costed me 29.98 quids / 2yrs.
Also I registered as user at
http://www.ukreg.com/
http://www.123-reg.co.uk/
When I tried to register the domain at ukreg, they've got a problem in the purchase process, so I couldn't. I moved to freeparking then registrered. Ukreg is more cheaper compare to freeparking but what attracted me was they've got sub-domain control function.
The last (or first) thing I need to do next is "find a good and cheap hosting company to go with"!
iboxhosting 02-21-2001, 11:42 AM Good luck on your search for a quality, reliable webhost!
What ever you decide my friend, I am sure it will be in the best interest of your website. Have a great day
-Edward- 02-22-2001, 04:22 PM when u posted that message did you think about the forum rules? or dont u really care?
rnwebdesignandhosting 02-22-2001, 04:45 PM Sorry guys, wont happen again.
melia 02-22-2001, 05:29 PM It won't last long, you could either edit it or now or wait until Chicken or BC edits for you.
Supanames( http://www.supanames.co.uk/ ) started
Unix hosting service as much as £33.99 for com.org.net.
They offer:
35mb of UK based UNIX webspace and Unlimited Bandwidth
(Unlimited...though),CGI/SSI/PHP...etc...
I sent email to ask the detail of the system and
service.
Finally, companies in my short list are this Supanames and Webhoster ( http://www.webhoster.co.uk/index.html
£25/year although the bandwidth is 1gb) and Hostyard( $30 /year 3gb bandwidth ). I haven't decided yet. :scatter:
Generally speaking I know I would get the service what I paid for. But I need to make a choice in the companies who provide cheap hosting service because of my budget...
If anybody is with these companies and gave me a comment,
it'll be help!
Cheers
Webdude 03-01-2001, 05:48 AM Hey Mods, yeah you too Chicken...would simply posting to tell people to look at your sig be considered advertising?
Chicken 03-01-2001, 09:39 AM Yep, that wouldn't fly either. Feel free to email me a URL (thread number, etc.), asking that I post a request that the user turn on email in their profile. I will gladly post a message requesting it.
easypooltutor 03-01-2001, 06:29 PM gvc,
5dollarhosting.com is one of the best low cost hosting IMHO. I've hosted with them before and they are excellent. I had no complaints.
The only problem I had was my site went over their maximum bandwidth limit of 10GB so I was forced to find another host :)
Check them out. I think their features are a perfect fit for what you're looking for.
fatcatz 03-03-2001, 02:39 AM Try http://www.ghoulnet.com they have all the features you want. £35.00/year for 25Mb. I have a site hosted there. When I ordered from them last year it from only £25/year and I got an extra 25Mb, they have increased thier price this year.
Another cheap webhost is http://www.digitalspace.net $36/year but I have never tried them.
BTW here my uptime monitor for my site hosted with Ghoulnet; http://uptime.arsdigita.com/uptime/reports.tcl?monitor_id=110061 You get what you pay ;)
FatCatz
PocketDownloads.com
Thank you for your information, easypooltutor and fatcatz.
5dollarhosting.com provides enough spec for me and
they charge setup fee. That's not expensive but
for me , cheaper is better..hehe
I've already checked this British company.
http://www.ghoulnet.com/
Sounds good. £35(inc.VAT) is affordable. And the better
point compared to Webhoster (http://www.webhoster.co.uk/index.html )is 5.0gb bandwith (Ghoulnet).
I sent email to Ghoulnet to check the detail.
Cheers Fatcatz, this uptime is very help for me to check them out.
This http://uptime.arsdigita.com/uptime/search-list-of-urls.tcl site is veru useful and easy to register. I bookmarked it.
http://www.digitalspace.net , I saw somebody posted their down time was long .. in this forum..or somewhere. So of course, the downtime is shorter is better.
[Edited by gvc on 03-03-2001 at 04:45 PM]
I sent some emails to Ghoulnet. Their reply was
very slow. I tried to check the detail of the service,
normally it took 2 days and the way of reply was not
nice...
Does anyone use one2host?
I signed up to their service for my trial.Actually,
it's not the trial but I purcahsed it for £35.88/year.
They said they do offer the unlimited bandwith although
if someone monopolized the resources of the server,
it would be problem (written in the terms). This border
between 'normal' and 'monopolized' is not clear yet.
I need to clarify this point to them. If the border was
0.5gb/month, I'll give up to use their service. There's
7 days money back gurantee...(only 7 days ,though)
Apart from it, they offer:
100mb space,ssi,cgi,asp,mysql..etc.
I know the unlimited bandwith is not real offer and there's
limit of the bandwith! Let's see.....
