Hi.
I want to double check about copying articles form Wikipedia.

I have 2 questions

1.
Can I really copy anything and use on my own website as long as I use below notice?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Copyright (c) YEAR YOUR NAME.
Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document
under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2
or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation;
with no Invariant Sections, no Front-Cover Texts, and no Back-Cover Texts.
A copy of the license is included in the section entitled "GNU
Free Documentation License".
------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.
If I have one page of article, where should I place the notice? top of the page? bottom of the page? or in the homepage of the website?

Thank you very much. I'm trying to follow the rule.

I thought you just needed to source it with them? source: wiki.com/article or something? There's a page on their site about it!

I'm fairly certain they would frown on your putting your name on the copyright notice, since you do not own their copyright.

I could be wrong, of course....

Be cautious when using Wikipedia as an absolute source. I'd post you the link, but I'm not allowed. Heck I can't even use smilies yet... Irregardless. I did a search for "dangers of using Wikipedia" as a source and came back with a LOT of hits. Consider that before you possibly throw your reputation on the possibility of misguided or misinformation.

What dangers? Can you give examples?

I guess that DahliaBloom is talking about the information in Wikipedia being unproven and at times misleading.

In my opinion and I am sure most of the writing people here will agree - if a person is to do some serious research, Wikipedia can only be a step towards a more thrustworthy source. If used as an absolute source, it can lead to great troubles (i.e. the author of an article brought into disrepute, etc.) and it is not working for the benefit of the research.

Exactly what I meant. With an ever changing and people self editing the information that is found on Wikipedia, my warning is for your personal credibility. I would have for you to, for example, write a brilliant doctorate thesis using only Wikipedia because you wouldn't be a doctor.

I searched on Google for "dangers of using Wikipedia." There are quite a few hits, although the relevancy would be up to your own judgement. *smile*
