View Full Version : Who's your VoIP provider?
The Prohacker 02-09-2007, 04:59 PM For the WHT members who use VoIP, what service providers are you using?
Are you rolling your own Asterisk server with multiple providers to optimize your investment, or are you keeping it simple with a single provider for your DID (phone number) and inbound/outbound minutes?
I'm looking at setting up a home Asterisk server and I would like some ideas on decent providers!
jasonkw 02-09-2007, 05:10 PM Multiple Asterisk servers spread across North America and terminating traffic onto PRIs that we have with a variety of carriers. We also utilize SER as a SIP proxy. Also getting advice on getting CLEC certification.
As far as decent providers go, I've used a whole bunch of them in the past. Vitelity (http://www.vitelity.net) has been pretty good when we used them.

Adam-AEC 02-13-2007, 01:44 PM Currently running an in-house Asterisk machine, with DIDs provided by les.net
Hardphones are the Polycom Soundpoint 501.
The quality is top-notch. I dont' notice the difference vs. a POTS line.
tier0 02-13-2007, 08:54 PM I'm keeping it simple and using SunRocket
SSHocker 02-13-2007, 11:08 PM [AU] Engin using Sipura SPA-3000
DilChahtaHai 02-14-2007, 02:32 PM We are currently using Skype (premium edition) but are scouting around for other options. I;ve heard good things about Vitelity.
freebase 02-14-2007, 06:11 PM Gradwell was recommended by WHT users ;]
I use their SIP service with a Cisco 7940G IP Phone.
Evolver 02-14-2007, 08:04 PM Right now Im using Dolphintel from www.dolphintel.com Works pretty good and since they activated their new routers not too long ago its been quite good.
USHMohan 02-16-2007, 11:04 AM We are using Unlimitel for our DID's and so far they have been great in terms of service and support.
pueblosnet 02-16-2007, 08:40 PM We use skype for outcoming calls, internetcalls.com for incoming and voxbone (bad support but good quality) for DIDs.
skypein it's not for spain :(
interactive 02-17-2007, 03:23 AM We second Vitelity.net. We've been using them for over a year (formerly EXGN). We're currently in the process of migrating the majority of our DIDs from them over to our new PRI for cost savings and then plan on using Vitelity.net for the overflow. For the price you really can't beat them.
sbthost 02-18-2007, 11:05 PM Junction networks, been happy with them.

Jeremy 02-19-2007, 06:56 AM Ive been searching around for awhile now, ill be keeping an eye on this thread :)
Thanks for the links so far.
zetec452 02-19-2007, 08:42 AM I use voipcheap.com. Not one of the more premium providers but they suit my needs perfectly... cheap. :)
pueblosnet 02-19-2007, 12:42 PM yes, I also use them but in internetcalls.com version.
EvilMan 02-23-2007, 03:48 PM You can always hook up some additional equiptment to the box and use a provider that gives you a box like vonage, telebay and etc. I use telebay for my business needs, and i get very cheaply, and i am able to offer it to others.
I know trixbox has docs and tells you what hardware you can use to do this with. (trixbox is basicly a nicer version of Asterisk, its built off the same technology)
daejuanj 02-25-2007, 05:13 PM Vonage here. Quality is good, but can't say the same about technical support.
Dan-Iron 02-25-2007, 07:59 PM Exactly! They're making me mad
Vonage here. Quality is good, but can't say the same about technical support.
Ivan23 02-25-2007, 09:15 PM Vonage ...
gounder 02-25-2007, 09:44 PM I had been using voiceeclipse.com since last Oct and they have been great. Support was never needed since everything had been working great.
The plus is for $19.95 you get 2-Lines so you actually get 2 Phone number.
This by far has been the best I have found, previously I had been using VoIP.net now no longer exist.
jvmombay 02-25-2007, 10:14 PM Vonage... and if i'm roaming i stick with yahoo msgr's voice
Spooon69 02-26-2007, 12:24 AM In no particular order (I've used them all):
Les.net
Vitelity
Callcentric
Inphonex
All of them are great, no problems, I eventually settled on inphonex (my primary right now) since they're the only provider I could find that has CNAM + MWI + PAYG.
wifiguru 02-26-2007, 09:18 PM Vonage.
I at least have a year to go with them, then I can think about switching(Year prepay)

nimbar 02-27-2007, 01:16 PM Mine is Globe7 :)
sirtwist 02-28-2007, 01:36 AM We have an asterisk server and are using ViaTalk for our DIDs. We're using Aastra 480i CT desk phones.
TopGunHomer 03-01-2007, 04:21 PM I use Charter Communications. It's not the greatest, but I get a nice discount with my Internet and cable television service.
Funkadelic 03-01-2007, 05:24 PM aptela.com
Defcon|Rich 03-02-2007, 11:28 PM We used to use the packet8 service. No complaints.
alex-developer 03-03-2007, 01:33 PM VoipDiscount, VoipCheap & VoipBusterPro :D
cbn-dmhannah 03-03-2007, 08:07 PM We have an Asterisk server and inbound/outbound with sipgate, although they only have UK numbers, but free.
We also have a few Aastra phone, really nice phones to use.
mtromszc 03-11-2007, 07:39 PM We tested accounts with Voipstreet.com, Teliax, and Vitelity. We chose Vitelity because of E911 support. however we got a few "circuits are busy" when using outgoing2 server for the outgoing trunk. We also looked at varphonex.com. The turnkey solution seems very attractive, but the prices are way too high. They also ask for a $200 setup fee ;)
ATLDedicated 03-11-2007, 07:52 PM We use quantum voice for VoIP and have never had an issue. We have unlimited calling time within the continental US with our toll free number. We have it running asterisk and it works out well. Total cost is about 45 bucks a month.
Justin 03-31-2007, 12:54 PM Using les.net voipcheap.com and callwithus.com presently. (DIDs with les and cwu)
MeToo 04-03-2007, 06:00 PM Using les.net voipcheap.com and callwithus.com presently. (DIDs with les and cwu)
The cwu website talks about caller id name and number on their DID's. From your experience do they actually do a cnam lookup and plugin the caller name on most calls? Their setup charge makes them a bit steeper than les.net but the cnam lookup could help even the scale.
BrettB 04-03-2007, 07:21 PM I've been using Vonage, but luckily have never really had to deal with their technical support, but the quality of the service is pretty good!
transops 04-12-2007, 05:41 AM We have an in-house Asterisk Machine and we are using 2 different providers. 1 for inbound and 1 for outbound calls. For our outbound calls, we are using VOIPjet and for our inbound we are using Terravon.
bqinternet 04-12-2007, 05:49 AM We're currently using Kall8 for toll-free inbound, and VoicePulse for outbound, routed through an Asterisk box.
johnseeham 10-28-2007, 04:02 PM We are using Easy Office Phone (http://www.easyofficephone.com) SIP trunking service with two asterisk boxes. We also use SNOM IP telephones and some softphones - X-lite
Funkadelic 10-28-2007, 04:31 PM Vonage is my VOIP provider and proud of it!
FastServ 10-28-2007, 04:52 PM We're using an in-house asterisk solution with 3 SIP trunks:
Broadvoice for E911
- Never had a single issue with these guys. However, we only use Broadvoice for routing E911 calls since they only allow 2-lines per account.
Junction networks for TF inbound (20 lines), backup outbound
- Great pre-sales, decent support when things work. If things go wrong, all I can say is good luck. Took them *3 weeks* to weed out a bad switchport on their end causing calls to be unbearable in quality. Also had a couple extended (2-6 hours downtime) outtages since we've been with them. Otherwise call quality is decent.
Voipstreet for outbound (20 lines)
- recently added these guys in frustration with Junction. Decided to keep them and might move everything over from Junction if things continue to go well, or if Junction has more outtages.
Mr E Mann 11-22-2007, 04:24 PM I'm in the UK and use voip.co.uk
For £2 per month you get cheap daytime calls... and free off peak calls
...I only use it at home, but with teenagers in the house it saves a lot of money :)
AnmolTech 11-27-2007, 03:13 PM I'm keeping it simple and using SunRocket
I believe they are out of business now.
bucasia 11-28-2007, 10:25 AM Hi,
I'm running Asterisk on a VPS for my personal use and use sipgate.co.uk (UK DDI number), voicestick.com (US DDI number) and babble.net.
All of them have been reliable. Voicestick latency from the US is great and I've been using Sipgate for about 3 years now with no problems. Babble I used for a while because they used to give away free minutes although they've stopped this now.

Spudstr 11-30-2007, 11:01 PM Junction networks, been happy with them.

I agree..
10char.
Echelon 12-01-2007, 11:54 AM I personally use VoiceNetwork (www.voicenetwork.ca) for my DID numbers, and a combination between VoipJet (www.voipjet.net) and Raketu (www.raketu.com) for dialing out. Usually works well, except raketu has an hour time limit on outgoing calls.
kiiver 12-20-2007, 02:48 PM SunRocket - just simple
endoffice 01-21-2008, 03:14 PM ITVocal does some interesting provider peering, where they find the best route. You may want to look into them as well.
mattdunn 03-26-2008, 12:49 AM I mostly use Skype, not that it's true VOIP, but it's really inexpensive, especially calling India.
I'm using Voicepulse Connect service http://connect.voicepulse.com for Asterisk boxes using SIP. Service is spotty, good 80% but the 20% where its bad its really bad or down. Using a modified Trixbox and Cisco SIP 7960s.
omega36 04-20-2008, 05:20 AM personally... pennytel.com with my n95 :)
SanServe : : Matt 04-20-2008, 07:41 AM http://www.gradwell.com
NetwireJohn 04-20-2008, 10:25 PM I am using vonage but switching over to Globalinx.
Spudstr 04-20-2008, 10:38 PM we now use level3's sip trunks/minutes to our pbx that we purchase from bandwidth.com who's a reseller for level3.
MeToo 04-21-2008, 10:35 AM we now use level3's sip trunks/minutes to our pbx that we purchase from bandwidth.com who's a reseller for level3.
Bandwidth.com doesn't have a user friendly web site. How is their pricing?

good, you pay a set rate per month per sip trunk you have with them, and they only charge for outbound calls and their pricing beat our pricing that we had with junction networks with far fewer problems as well now.
rasputin 04-21-2008, 01:05 PM I use Vonage and Time Warner. Time Warner is our main phone provider. We use their new business phone service, and have been very happy with it. It saved us about $450/mo. over ATT. Worked with our existing Nortel Phone system, vmail, etc, and has been relatively flawless. For Vonage we use that for other purposes on everything from our security system, to 800 forwarding to our current system.
For the most part I've not seen any major problems with either.
spitfires 09-15-2008, 03:45 AM http://www.netfone.ca/
I have used netfone for a couple of years now. Awesome service and support
I had used Vonage as my first Voip service and I'm soooo glad I switched.
I use Broadvoice for both my personal and business DID's/VIOP service on an Asterisk server. This setup has worked great for the past 2 years or so...

I have used Asterisk servers connecting to Teliax. Teliax uses Asterisk themselves, and have grown and added many servers to their own infrastructure. With them being Asterisk based, you can setup IAX trunks instead of SIP trunks to them. They have many options and have been fairly stable in the several years of use.
