Hi.

I just got my EPP and I want to transfer it to a new registrar. I was using enom.com, but I hated their website so much I wanted to get completely out of there.

I'm going to give hostgator a try for my website hosting, but I don't think I want to use them as the registrar for the domain name. I know they use enom and I'm trying to avoid them.

Can anyone recommend a good registrar, who doesn't use enom or anyone else to register domain names? Or, maybe you know of a real bad one that I should avoid.

I'm seeking a reputable registrar that doesn't hijack domain names and offers ID protection on whois for free. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

You might not like them, since they are an eNom reseller :)

Resellerclub.com would be a good choice too.
Free Whois Protection, Many Special Offers, Good and complete control panel, Reseller control panel, great pricing, live support and etc.
They accept credit card and Paypal.

I had used Tucows and more recently WebCC, both of them are troublefree and especially WebCC normally goes out of the way to help with things.

Namecheap and Godaddy are most discussed here. Personally I prefer namecheap.

- clean site (no hosting offers and other crap) That is what I am to say.

Namecheap is another reseller... (to me, it looks like another RegisterFly). I wonder why people like them so much?.... Their prices aren't good.
GoDaddy became evil.
I would recommend Stargate.com (transfer @ $5.95) with a good customer service (replied in 4 hours on a sunday!), paypal is OK, ICANN registered.

try this; I know they are fine and there are at least one reseller works with them they are happy. However, I am trying to contact with them without any success; if you are able to contact just let me know.

You probably know this, but just in case. Avoid registerfly at all costs.

GoDaddy became evil.

I've never been a fan of the megahosts/registrars, but wanted to save some money (heh...) and friends had encouraged me to transfer many of my domains to GoDaddy because of their experiences.

GoDaddy supposedly offers, ".com transfers for $ 6.95/yr, FREE one-year extension included. Plus all the time remaining on your existing registration.*"

The transfer was completed today and I realized I only received the remaining time plus one year, so I called. I was told, "You paid for a transfer, and you got a one year extension for free." I said, "But one never pays a transfer fee, one pays for the registration itself. The implication is that you receive a one year registration, plus one year extension, plus the time remaining." "I can understand that interpretation," he said. "But that's not how it works."

Beware.

Ok. I'm going to check all those out. I've heard some bad things about GoDaddy, so I don't think I'll go there. I've got namecheap bookmarked, just in case I can't come up with something better, but I'm sure something better is out there. I'll check out all the other ones mentioned here. Thanks!

I've been using NameCheap.com for many years. Never had to contact support once. I think they do a pretty decent job. I've always avoided GoDaddy.com though, not sure why but thats what my brain said to do.

I went to ICANN's website. Wow! Lots of domain hosts there! I'm going to look at all of them (big job, I know), and make a list of those that offer the features I'm looking for. If I can't see the information up front on their website in a nanosecond, I'll move to the next one. Once I've gone through each of them and I've got my list, I'll then look for reviews on those registrars. That should narrow it down considerably. Then, I can return here to see if anyone has used the ones I'm really debating on using.

I've looked at all the registrars everyone here has suggested, but I still haven't found what I'm looking for. So far, namecheap seems like the best option, but I still worry about the fact that they are an enom reseller.

Just want to see ALL my options! Oh, and don't worry. I'm steering clear of registerfly and GoDaddy.

It will take me a few days to come up with a good list, so I'll let you all know what I find then!

There are a lot because many are just shill registrars for drop catching and domain tasting. A few private ones for larger companies, really there isnt that many actually competing for your business.

Yeah, I'm seeing alot of the same websites repeated over and over. Those aren't making my list. Maybe this won't take as long as I first thought.

check http://www.webhosting.info/registrars/top-registrars/global/
It will help you to find active registrars and how many domains each one has.

I think that we can't trust webhostinginfo, because that forum is appurtenant to Direcri.

Thanks! I looked at the website. I've either been there before or it's identical to one I looked at already. In any case, it does help to see some names. I found another website that gives reviews of the main domain registrars, too. Right now I'm really looking at using either namecheap or moniker. Any one know anything about moniker?
