I was wondering. Are there still UBB suppoters around here?

I recently visited UBB support forum. I noticed that the forum is being deserted.
Will UBB disappear into dust of time? ;0

I still use UBB. But their support is crappy, and I am not looking forward to paying the renewel fee since it is a non-profit site. I especially did not enjoy having one of their admins post on my forum telling me that I did not have a license, when in fact I did. Not to mention I provide a contact link so they could have just e-mailed me. It took me a phone call to InfoPop to verify that I actually DID have a license so they would stop bugging us. Sheesh!

I'm swithcing to either Ikonboard or VBulletin.

*tsk*

sounds like UBB might be getting a little desperate to keep their product doing. It looks like the usual case of someone spending too much time enforcing their licence and not enough time developing their product. They *were* the best thing out there, but others came along and improved.

Survival of the fittest... This internet thing is a hard game to play, and it doesn't take much to get you killed out there. Anyone who spends enough time online will know it's the new Wild West.

All I know is that the vb2 is super and much improved from version 1.1X.
Just look how ambitious I got when I got my hands on it http://www.allforums.net .

And they say the prev. vb was better than BB , then BB is a joke now and also more expencive I`ve heard.
Go for VB Klisis, especially when you`re in doubt of UBB!

If you want to save money go for Ikonboard (which is suppose to be amazingly efficient in it's next release) or phpBB which I have found to be an excellent product (the next release is suppose to be amazing).

The only thing you might lack in the free boards is an extensive array of admin tools like vB has.

Ikonboard is an amazing product for a "non-mysql, "non-php" product. You really can't get better and UBB doesn't even come close.

phpBB is very well coded and amazingly efficient. It's fast, reliable, and I love the simple layout (not to cluttered like Ikonboard).

It all depends on what resources you have available and what type of board you want to setup. I personally use phpBB, but not everyone has access to php and MySQL.

UBB might be going down fast, but I don't think InfoPop is. If anything, they've just moved to the larger end of the market with OpenTopic.

vBulletin, PhpBB and Ikonboard are targeted more towards medium to large forums, and are in a somewhat separate market to OpenTopic. And there's a plethora of other players. Don't forget WWWThreads, Anyboard, Ultraboard, DCForum, UltraBoard and I'd better not mention the other one (forum rules...). Even WWWBoard seems to be lingering on.
