Recently, I renewed some domains I have at registerfly.
And I'm having a few problems.
As they became ICANN accredited registrer, when we renew domains,
they transfer the domain from ENOM to themselves.
While this seems to work without excessive delay, sometime they just transfer the domain without renewing...
I've sent out a ticket and I'm still waiting.
Another problem is more annoying, and I switched DNS from registerfly's own DNS to the one of web host.
Somehow, registerfly is including the dns from enom? in addition to their own dns in the whois setup, and that additional DNS doesn't carry the zone file for the domain.
So, it fails to resolve one out of four requests.
I guess this one is caused by the bug of their control panel software.
Anyone renewing domain at registerfly may want to check if the DNS servers have been changed and check if all DNS listed are actually carrying your domain info on it.
It's easy to check with using "whois" and "dig" command.
>whois example.com
If whois shows these four DNS:
dns1.registerfly.com
dns2.registerfly.com
dns3.registerfly.com
dns4.nameservices.com
>dig @dns1.registerfly.com example.com
>dig @dns2.registerfly.com example.com
>dig @dns3.registerfly.com example.com
>dig @dns4.nameservices.com example.com
If all of them know the domain, it's OK.
But after the renewal/transfer (maybe after a few days), the last DNS may stop resolving your domain.
Maybe this is an isolated case for them, though.
PS.
They also dropped wild card subdomain entry from the DNS setup.
I found out because the domain name with www stopped to work.
Although I have ben satisfied with their cheap services (with their problems),
I'm thinking about transfering to another registrer.
When they were using ENOM's name server, I didn't have these problems.
I kenw their control panel is written in PHP and it's buggy and slow, and I could live with that.
But I don't like to see the same level of operations for name servers and DNS management.
