View Full Version : Lost my domain, help!

Just as I finally escaped the idiots at Fuitadnet, they stabbed me right in the back.

I had been with Fuitadnet since sometime in 2004. I registered my domain name with them. After their service plummeted, I switched to Hostgator in 2006, and I *thought* I had even transferred the domain to them entirely, and I'm fairly sure even paid the fee!

I suddenly found out that it expired on Jan. 29th and I had no notification. When I went to check the whois to find out who had taken it, I discovered that:

1. Fuitadnet still had it!
2. I'm still listed as the owner, but the e-mail and phone number are completely wrong.

I don't know how to go about getting it back. I talked to Hostgator. They told me that Fuitadnet definitely had the domain, but Hostgator still has my files at an IP address. They told me to contact Fuitadnet. I did, with the following e-mail:

"In 2004, I registered the domain name f-d-r.com with Fuitadnet. Late in 2006, I cancelled my account with Fuitadnet and had the domain itself transferred to Hostgator. I paid the transfer fees, and Fuitadnet changed the nameservers for me to the nameservers at Hostgator.

Since then, I have discovered that the domain expired on Jan. 29th, and whois search revealed that Fuitadnet is still claiming it. I am *still* listed as the owner of the domain, but with seriously out of date contact information. While my name and address are correct, the telephone number and e-mail address are not. I would like to resolve the situation to regain ownership of my domain and have it transferred back to my current webhost."

Is there anything else I can do? I'm kicking myself for not being more attentive, because the last time I renewed this thing, I got a letter in the mail and everything. I just want the domain back.

Wait, it says the domain is registered with enom.com, who has access to the domain via the control panel?

You said fuitadnet set the nameservers to hostgators, which is not really "transferring" but /delegating/ dns for the domain to hostgator.
It's also a bit weird that they would charge you to change nameservers for a domain you own. As the owner you should be able to change all aspects of the domain at any time for free.

That's right. You were cheated, Rebochan, by your former hosting.

Call eNom. If it's still within 30 days after expiry, they will help you for the price of their annual renewal of $30. It that's too much, then your domain isn't worth saving. Move on.

I checked the enom website and according to their Reseller Retrieval tool, it is still listed with Fuitadnet as the reseller.

Needless to say, I'm more than a little confused over who actually has the domain right now! I'd like to link to the whois, but I can't due to forum restrictions.

That's not your email address as the Registrant?

Nope - it's an old one that now bounces. The phone number is from a really old apartment I haven't lived in since...well, since the domain was registered.

The home address and name are mine.

And thanks for the link.

That's NOT exactly the authoritative whois. If you look at that over at eNom (the respective registrar), you can see that they include this line in RED:

This name has EXPIRED, the former whois information is ...

... I'm more than a little confused over who actually has the domain right now!....Short answer is, enom does. Your best bet is to contact them. http://www.enom.com/aboutus.asp

contact Fuitadnet again. how long has it been since you sent that email?

it might help for you to have an enom retail account to move the name into.

I e-mailed them Friday with no response yet, and their website has been, predictably, down frequently, which was one of the key reasons I left.

I created a free enom account. Is that what you mean by a retail account?

Do a transfer with omnis.com As long as you have photo ID, an you are the admin contact. you can transfer the domain. but you need to do it before the 29th i believe or it goes into the deleted list which can take up to anther month for it to happen.
