View Full Version : Recommend PHP Portal Software?
dm_fw 02-02-2007, 07:23 PM I am looking for PHP portal software geared toward publishing pages and information rather than allowing the user to configure their content. What I would like is the PHP equivalent of DotNetNuke, and with these features:
Easy setup of pages and content on pages. No programming changes required
Use of modules to handle basic tasks, ex. List of links, announcements, event lists, etc.
Allow viewing of content based on a user's profile. Eg. Pages or event items on a page would be invisible to a user.
Allow controlled admin of specific pages.
I have looked at PHP nuke and it is OK, but it does not have the modules or allow the flexibility I need.
I would consider free or commercial.
QuESTie 02-03-2007, 07:21 AM Joomla rules!!! :) you will never have to look for anything else.. best of all, its free :D
cartika-andrew 02-03-2007, 04:13 PM Joomla or Drupal would fit your requirements.
And actually, based on this requirement:
Allow viewing of content based on a user's profile. Eg. Pages or event items on a page would be invisible to a user.
I think Drupal is a better fit
The Stealthy One 02-03-2007, 06:56 PM I can add yet another vote for Joomla. :) I am using this more and more, and I am really pleased!
David 02-03-2007, 07:03 PM e107! http://www.e107.org
I've been using it for years and absolutely love it.
mrbister 02-03-2007, 07:04 PM I've used e107 for several years, but for your needs I'd go for Joomla too.
Maybe you guys could share some of your Joomla pages for him to view. :)
Cirtex 02-03-2007, 07:06 PM Don't forget about http://www.xoops.org/ ;)
Also many good options for vBulletin and phpBB if you choose to have it build in upon the forums instead.

ldcdc 02-03-2007, 11:55 PM I guess you're getting pretty confused by now. :D
I use Joomla, though I can't say it's going to be to everyone's liking. My initial "contact" with it was rather disheartening, but once I got to know it well, I came to find that it fulfilled my (admitedly simple) needs.
When it comes to these things, I think each should try a couple of solutions/applications and see which one fits his needs and... brain wiring. :)
PS. Thread moved to Web Design and Content.
itsmylife 02-07-2007, 04:05 AM I think Joomla is great. :)
If you are using vbulletin, you may wish to take a look at badvanced.
24Hostingnow 02-07-2007, 04:33 AM Go for joomla, you wont regret it!
Saga_reactor 02-08-2007, 03:04 PM do NOT use php nuke its the worst piece of software from the ones mentioned in this topic, its buggy and resource intensive, maybe joomla or mambo would be better ? ive also heard that php fusion is ok
wedesignit 02-12-2007, 11:36 AM joomla!
Firts i didn't like it, and now i love it.
I can do full templates now, iand i do not know a word of php.
liberteheb 02-13-2007, 12:23 PM i used e107 and loved it... Give it a try!
dm_fw 02-13-2007, 04:00 PM I tried joomla and e107. e107 works well. However, I installed joomla 3 times and I ended up deleting my site content each time! I can not see why this occurred, and the system did not warn me of any issue! Strange!
Also, both are not as easy to configure as DotNetNuke. I would love to find a PHP CMS like "DotNetNuke"!
