I made this site for a friend http://www.huckleberrymtnbassets.com/

basically when someone sends her pics of a dog they bought from her she will just fwd it to me to be put on the website so then i have to.....by hand.....insurt the images into a table then the thumbnail leads to a larger pic with a title of the dogs name etc.

doing this by hand gets to be time consuming i do use a image software to make the thumbs and images and image html pages automaicly but after it resizes all the images for me i have to go in by hand put them on the page and add a note about the dog.

There has to be a better way? I'm looking for something free.

I would look into Drupal (www.drupal.org)

You need to find a photo gallery script that allows you to insert an image with some fields for extra data, store this to a database and then on output have the image auto-resized on the fly or even have code generate and save a thumbnail.

I'll give drupal a try. Can i have the site look exactly like it does now with drupal? or some type of content management?

Its not just the images that take time to change the links on the left hand side are the same way if i add a page to the site i have to go back and add the new link by hand to all the pages.

Well just for the images I would suggest "Gallery2" it's free and very easy to work with. You could always go with a content management script like Joomla, but that would require a complete redesign.

visit www.joomla.org & extensions.joomla.org
you can find lots of free joomla extensions (community builder, mycontent and more than 80 gallery extensions) which may help you.

I would go for Drupal (www.drupal.org) (http://www.drupal.org%29). Indeed, it has it all in one included - users, forums, blogs, articles, static pages, collective book writing, categories, file-attachment on posts, international interface translations, multi-language and many features more. I've been using it for, let's say, a year and have no complaints about it. My advice: give it a try :agree:

i would second this comment. i use drupal for most of my sites from blogs to full communities and it is a very powerful tool.

especially with the module CCK which allows you to create custom content types to suit any site.

well worth looking into and although it is different to other CMS, once you have spent 1 hour with it you will be hooked.

Some people have suggested Drupal, which is definitely a powerful and flexible content management solution. I think it's overkill for what you need, however. Duplicating what you've already got with Drupal would (at least) require customization with a module such as Flexinode or the Content Construction Kit (CCK).

If the rest of the site doesn't change very often, the first thing you should look for is a simple image management script. I haven't had occasion to use such a thing yet, but I've heard good reviews of PhotoStack (you'll have to google it, since I'm too new here to link).

If you want a system that can manage a photo gallery and other site content, I'd recommend Textpattern. It has image management features built right in, and the upm_image plugin allows very flexible presentation of the graphics you add to the system.
