isn't doing very well? Maybe I miss the show but I don't see it being utilize anywhere  Personally, I went to google checkout website and read about their API stuff, seems very complex and confusing. The whole API and other information is in one chunk, stuff in a page itself. So many links, click here and there...god..

I don't think Google checkout is popular method to pay for products, the best way I think credit / debit card, PayPal & Nochex for UK.

Sorry, I still recommend the PayPal due to I have never had problems with them.

You can try 2checkout.com instead of PayPal. :D

i use both paypal and 2checkout
personally i much prefer 2checkout. it SEEMS like they will dispute any chargebacks more agresivley than paypal. paypal is ok but be carefull you might get burned by chargebacks. they ben over backwards to credit card companied

Last I checked Google Checkout is only available in the U.S.? Limiting their cliental certainly doesn't help.

Paypal has a huge lead because it has been in the market for several years. I think that after Google learns more about the market, they will be a stronger competitor for PayPal and other merchant services.

That's the problem imo.

It seems quite a few sites have started to take it up, but, until they expand outside the USA then it will never reach the same popularity as Paypal.

The google checkout api has multi currency support in it so I'd assume they plan to process other currencies in the future.

One thing that I saw when testing non US currencies through the API is that the error returned when a non US currency was something like:

"The currency must match the currency of the sellers account"

Which leads me to believe that even when they accept multiple currencies a seller will only be able to accept one type of currency. Which of course would pretty much suck.

The one unusual thing about Google Checkout that I noticed is that they do not offer any phone support.

One of our staff members corresponded with them and they refused to speak over the phone and instead only wanted to chat over e-mail. I think at some point that is either going to have to change or it is going to create some real customer service headaches... especially if a merchant runs into a funding question, has a chargeback question etc.

Yes thats right, Looks like Google is not taking it serious. I say 2CO is the best, Paypal is very popular but .. 2CO fraud department is 10 times better than paypal's.

That is google's modus operandi. Trying to get phone support from them for any of there services in next to impossible.

Google lacks two things - International seller support - and recurring transactions support. Without these two their offer is a no-no.

Yes, from what we gathered - their business model is more of an online merchandiser-type setup. I think in part, they are launching the program to generate more buzz for their Adwords and try to tie the two together.

Web hosting and other electronic delivery and recurring billing businesses have an entirely different set of needs.

2CO is good but the fee per transaction is a big chunk compare to paypal and google checkout.

A great example of how people join things just because it has the "Google" brand.
Just goes to show that anything can be promoted if it is promoted goodly.

We've been using Google checkout since their launch. We also offer paypal and use a regular merchant account for payments.

The amount of users using Google checkout has been picking up steam lately.

The pickup could be due to the amount of promotions they have been having also, the modeling for Google Checkout is very different then others from what I have gathered, im not sure if they even want recurring payments, this would generally establish as a service payemnt, these types of charges are harder to dispute.
Google also has been going in the route of not caring for small customers, in a way its good business for them and I like it. (helps weed out those just looking for free processing somthign which most customers are now)
