View Full Version : Is this fraud?

I got an order today that is of my largest plan.

They put the following in the contact form:

city: Brunswick
state: NJ
postalcode: 07850
country: USA

But in the credit card:

Payment Method - Amex
Bainbridge, GA 31717
USA

I took out names, street addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses for privacy, but they were both completely different from each other. Should assume this is fraud? Or how should I handle this?

Also, the requested domain does not even exist at www.internic.net, but this happens to me a lot so I'm not sure if this is a problem.

Thanks,

Neofree

Do a reverse look up on the address of each, and the phone number especially. if the reverse lookup of phone # doesnt match address/name of the CC, then its fraud.

anywho.com has reverse lookup

If you are unsure of whether or not the order is fraudulent, simply give the person a call and see if they placed the order and even query them on why the addresses are so different. If never hurts to be cautious.

Another possibility, (person could have moved and not updated CC info yet) (asked a friend or family member to buy it for them*hey, it does happen*...)

I often ship things using my CC to colleagues.
It's best to contact the CC name ;)

You say it is a Amex Credit card... Call American Express and ask them if this person/card is legit.

Amex's number is 888 258 3741
International Collect 336 393 1111

I let 2CheckOut make the call. Basically the IP, the billing address and the contact address where of 3 different states. Both telephone numbers reversed to incorrect names. It was the largest plan, and they had not asked any questions. We decided to cancel them. If they come back asking why we will reconsider.

Wise choice. If they were legit, they'll contact you asking how their order is progressing, etc.. If it was fraudulent order, they'll simply try their scam with another host.
