View Full Version : Help, US webhost, reliable 24/7, high bandwith !? need today!
joshcali 06-29-2002, 10:23 PM Hi,
I'm looking to find a web hosting site today. I'm going to be setting up a 3D website with image gallery, and software downloads, and animation examples.
I'm figuring that I'll probably need high bandwith/storage.
I really like the idea of a place like hostway.com but their additionals are expensive! $25/month per extra gb bandwith, and $1 per mb for additional storage!!
talk about getting screwed if you go over...
anyone can recommend a really reliable service, or tell me if I'm going over in my expectations?
thanks!!
-Josh
Chicken 06-29-2002, 10:34 PM $25/gb overage is certainly up there. If you're just setting it up, then you shoudl be fine with most plans, however if you feel it will be popular (one always hopes), then you'd probably be best off looking for a high transfer provider (not that unlimited garbage) that can accomodate you.
Servstra-Sales 06-29-2002, 10:43 PM Can't say I have ever seen a host charge $25.00 per GB overage!
That must be some amazing data transfer their using!
joshcali 06-29-2002, 10:57 PM Yeah, I've done enough reading to avoid the unlimited garbage. the only thing I'm woried about is bandwith.
I;m going to have example images from the software, image of the day, etc, so I figure the average visit will be 300-400k
The software I'm selling is going to be about 10mb, also
when the site first launches, the company I'm working with is going to send out a mailer to 55,000 customers. so I expect at least 10,000 hits, just the first day...
anyone know *good* high bandwith hosts, and what I should be paying?
I'd also like 24/7 customer support, on a reputable site, since my livelyhood will be based on this!
thanks!

Servstra-Sales 06-29-2002, 11:18 PM Depending on your budget, you may be best getting your own dedicated server. Just a thought.
Incognito 06-29-2002, 11:25 PM Or otherwise a shared server with very limited domains on it. Maybe the equivalent of half a server.
joshcali 06-29-2002, 11:55 PM sooo....
this sounds like good advice overall, are people allowed to suggest specific hosting sites?
(or did I just ask for too much to get an actual recommendation :D )
I'm thinking of signing up tonight or tomorrow
Servstra-Sales 06-30-2002, 12:03 AM Hosts aren't allowed to post offers in this forum. You might want to try posting your requirements in the Web Hosting request forum.
joshcali 06-30-2002, 12:05 AM Good advice, but I guess I was looking for recommendations from 3rd parties...
Every host has the best most reliable service, they all tell me so!
;)
Servstra-Sales 06-30-2002, 12:08 AM Ahhh...well if you are after first hand suggestions from clients, then this is the forum to ask for them.
viGeek 06-30-2002, 01:38 PM When I think of high-bandwidth for a good price. www.HostRocket.Com comes to mind. Their starter/lite plan, or whatever it is called, comes with 20GB transfer. They also have a pretty solid reputation.
Curtis H. 06-30-2002, 03:16 PM I don't know or have personal experience with these guys but you can get...
1,500 Megabytes Storage
50 Gigabytes Data Transfer
Price: $35/month
There are cheaper plans with decent transfer amounts.
Professional - $24.95
Space: 500mb
Transfer: 30 GB
Take a look at Cobaltconnection.com (http://www.cobaltconnection.com/) and do some home work. Their site could be more informative.
Curtis H. 06-30-2002, 04:37 PM Another one that comes to mind and one I have been thinking about signing on with is Myacen Network (http://www.myacen.com/).
They have plenty of plans to chose from (http://www.myacen.com/virtualhosting.html).
Their not a US company but the servers are located in Georgia so I don't see a problem there. Their forums are fairly active and support seems to be real good.
