I'm quite satisfied with the service and price. They also donate 50 cents of the registration fee to a charity you choose from on a list presented on checkout--I know its not really important, but its kind of nice. Chaw 01-20-2007, 07:16 PM a canadian company like namespro.ca VVIP 01-20-2007, 07:27 PM I use trillium.ca HostNorth 01-20-2007, 09:47 PM Nice. Thanks for the links everyone. On another note, if I wanted to add .ca to my available domains, can anyone recommend a good reseller ? Evolver 01-20-2007, 10:03 PM Nice. Thanks for the links everyone. On another note, if I wanted to add .ca to my available domains, can anyone recommend a good reseller ? The only .ca resellers I know are OpenSRS which I use and Enom. OpenSRS pricing is $14 while Enom is $15.63 dollars although their price for other domains (.com/net/org) is higher then Enom. I went with OpenSRS because (at least last time I looked) when you wanted to update .ca registaration info you could only do it for the Enom whois server/service and it wouldnt be updated with CIRA. I think you had to ask Enom to update the info for each .ca domain manually, which seemed lilke a pain in the *** and a bit sketchy thing to do. And tucows/OpenSRS is a Canadian company so that was a bonus. Setting up Enom is way easier then OpenSRS which makes you go through an online test to makes sure you can use their system and have to fill out and fax in an application form. You also have to pay one time activation fee which I believe was $95 US. You do not however ever get dinged for credit card deposits like with Enom. Enom is supported by most hosting billing scripts. OpenSRS is supported by Whois.Cart, AWBS (Experimental) and there is a plugin for ClientExec which I had written and which is available for free. I use it and it woks good with .ca domains. HostNorth 01-21-2007, 12:30 AM hmm nice info.. so how do these guys sell .ca names so cheap? I just got mine for 13 bucks and change Evolver 01-21-2007, 12:39 AM hmm nice info.. so how do these guys sell .ca names so cheap? I just got mine for 13 bucks and change Well all the ones that sell .ca domains for cheap are actual CIRA accredited registrars so they get cheap pricing. Obviously OpenSRS gets their pricing cheap too but marks it up for the reseller. Maybe some are also selling at cost as a loss leader. HostNorth 01-21-2007, 02:19 AM Thanks for the info Evolver. nameslave 01-21-2007, 10:25 AM Well all the ones that sell .ca domains for cheap are actual CIRA accredited registrars so they get cheap pricing. Actually you NEED to be an CIRA-certified registrar to resell .CA domains. (This includes eNom Canada, which is a CIRA-certified registrar.) Effective July 2005, CIRA charges CAN$8.50 for each .CA registration year; therefore, quite a few registrars are able to set their retail pricing at around CAN$10. Yes, Tucows/OpenSRS set theirs at US$14, which has long been criticized as too high, esp. for resellers. Hope this clarifies a bit. zwolf 01-21-2007, 02:27 PM We have used several, Netfirms.ca seems to have the best prices, but if you are looking to register many names there system really isn't the best. We have also used namepros and have found that while they are slightly more expensive then netfirms there system is really easy to use and straight forward, and much better than NetFirms. Currently we have an Enom reseller account, and while more expensive than the other two, I have found there system to be the best, plus you can resell .ca's with Enom. One company I do not recommend is NetNation, I have found there service to be horrible, I have contacted them several times regarding issues we have had, they do not reply to tickets, and they messed up on domain names we registered. The worst place to get .ca's in my opinion. Evolver 01-21-2007, 08:07 PM urrently we have an Enom reseller account, and while more expensive than the other two, I have found there system to be the best, plus you can resell .ca's with Enom. Does Enom still restrict the .ca whois info only to their whois servers? Or do the changes get sent to CIRA also? zwolf 01-21-2007, 09:38 PM Hi Evolver, yes, it appears the info is sent to CIRA as well. Evolver 01-21-2007, 11:11 PM Hi Evolver, yes, it appears the info is sent to CIRA as well. Hmm acutally I just tried it and its sill the same way I went into Enom and tried to make changes to a .ca domain and this is what I got These changes will only be visible when using the eNom WHOIS lookup. Due to .ca registry restrictions, changes made to the Registrant contact will only be visible on eNom's WHOIS lookup. They will not show up on the registry web site. CIRA whois is not updated after this change. I also went to manage.opensrs.net and logged into with another .ca domain. I changed the Administrative info and then had to go to CIRA to approve this change. https://registrants.cira.ca/user After that CIRA's whois was updated instantly. So Enom still has a wacky .ca setup. zwolf 01-22-2007, 01:20 AM Ok, sorry I guess I misunderstood your question. The original information I provided for registration shows up for my domain correctly from the CIRA whois, I take it the issue only involves changes to the contact info/not showing up correctly? I had never heard of this issue before. Good to know though. :) When it comes to Enom, I do like that Enom automatically handles the CIRA confirmation process though, I hate having to manually confirm each new registration on the CIRA site, very time consuming when you register alot of domains. nameslave 01-22-2007, 09:55 AM These changes will only be visible when using the eNom WHOIS lookup. This kind of "update" by eNom is LAME to say the least. Registrant and Admin Contact changes which ONLY show up at eNom are probably NOT authoritative, UNLIKE ICANN which delegates this role to its accredited registrars. Thumbs down for eNom. To be honest, I still don't understand why people (CANADIANS) would use eNom to register their .CA domains. |
