View Full Version : Reseller Account
Labina 02-12-2001, 01:37 AM Hi, I have been looking at reseller accounts, and have found one that I liked, at donhost.com, the only thing that i have been reading here about them is that you cannot host .com, .org., .net, with ther name server alias. Is there another company for around that price that you would be able to host these domains.
Another thin, i really like Webhosting panel, and Cpanel, and they dont have that panel, they have a different one, does anyone know any other company that has those panels and has it around the same price as donhost.com.
Thanks

Not able to host .com, .net, .org? What can they host????
There are many companies that will do what you are asking. Please take a look at this thread:

LOL..reminds me of an old story about an idiot man called DON QIOUTE
Labina 02-12-2001, 02:22 AM Donhost’s personal name server does not support TLD (.com, .net, .org) we have to use their DNS instead of my ns1,ns2.mydomain.com.

I think ya'll missed this part of the post. What Labina is looking to do is host domains with a reseller *and* set up an alias to the host's nameservers, but apparently this isn't possible with donhost.
It isn't that they can't/don't host .com/.net/,org...
GordonH 02-12-2001, 10:16 AM Hello
The process for setting up personal name servers under Cpanel3/WHM is a bit ropey.
It only really works if you are giving the reselelr their own WHM control panel.
A lot of hosts don't like doing this as it increases the support burden.
To get round this we set up name servers for resellers under a different domain to our companies domain that can't be easily traced back to us.
This preserves the anonomity thing while keeping the admin costs down.

-Edward- 02-12-2001, 10:55 AM I have a reseller account with http://www.kdawebservices.com .. Not that i resell but i like the idea of being able to add my own domains, Use my own dns etc etc.... I don't know how hard it was to setup the dns since Karl did it for me. Plus KDAWebservices alround performance is much better than donhost will ever be :).
I host both .com's and .co.uk domains on my nameservers .. I don't understand why Fasthosts and Donhost restrict the domain exetensions allowed on your personal dns, It's kinda dumb.
Toons 02-12-2001, 11:16 AM Hi,
They dont restrict them, theyre not technically capable of doing different dns servers as for .com's the dns servers need unique ip addresses for them, you cannot have 2 dns servers under the same ip address, Im sure some of the providers on http://www.bigbytes.co.uk will allow this on their reseller account's.

Tony Lucas
-Edward- 02-12-2001, 11:35 AM I've contacted a lot of the providers on bigbytes .. None of them could supply me with 2 ips for nameservers unless i paid them £40 a month, Now thats a hell of a lot just for 2 ips.
I've never contacted xcalibre maybe i will....
Toons 02-12-2001, 11:37 AM That does suprise me somewhat, but I could only put it down to them having limited ip allocations.

Tony Lucas.
-Edward- 02-12-2001, 11:53 AM It cost £150 for a year when i had personal dns on webnetics. Then i could only host .co.uk's which was annoying as i targeted people in the usa.
donhost 02-13-2001, 12:46 PM Just to clarify, Donhost can host .com, .net and .org domain names. In fact we are able to host domain names of any extension. The issue is with the hosting of the .com domain names on personal name servers in the format ns.yourdomain.com. For this to be done we would have to allocate 2 unique IP addresses to each reseller, this we obviously cannot afford to do with our current pricing structure.
You can host .com domain names on your reseller account but they would be registered to our name servers when viewing the WHOIS output i.e. ns.donhost.co.uk. We can however provide you with two IP addresses at an additional cost of £70.00 per year which enables you to host .com, .net and .org domain names on your personal name servers.
Kaith Sutai-Rustaz 02-13-2001, 01:33 PM 70/yr seems a tad steep. I pay $5 (US) per ip for a static one for use with my DSL line, and the 3 companies i've used as a reseller all charged $1 (us) or less each per month for addresses.
Of course, I must admit to a fair level of 'no clue'ness when it come to what it takes on the host side do do all this.
donhost 02-13-2001, 01:59 PM IP space is not cheap in the UK as it is in the US.
