There is a host on these forums that I cought lying about being a customer of his own company and he posted a positive(of course :)) review of his company. After I publicly posted that he was lying and showed dns records (his username was the same as the regestered name in the dns record) He changed his username. Now with this new username he was banned by one of the wht mod's and now has yet another one which he is advertising his hosting company with(although this time not lying about being their customer) He basically admitted all of this in a pm that I sent him and said that he learned from his mistake. Should I turn him in?

Do what you think is right just as we all should do based on our own beliefs, judgements, etc and not on what the pack thinks...

He basically admitted it in a pm that I sent him and said that he learned from his mistake. Should I turn him in? This post alone has likely taught the person in question not to confide in you via "pm" anymore which in itself could be detrimental to your "insider's knowledge" and the level of trust the person in question, as well as others, may offer to you. For this reason it's usually my advise to a) hold all private messages as private and b) if you feel you must "tell a secret" to do so discretely. In this situation by maybe letting a mod know of your knowledge and letting them handle it from there.

Trust is something to be handled with the utmost care as it is extremely fragile.

Who really cares?

If people care to check and see who they are going with, then posting as another username to promote yourself with fabricated positive comments won't do you any good anyway.

Don't worry so much about it.

I'm not telling anyone his secret because I didnt mention his name. It could be anyone on these boards :) And I decided not to turn him in, if anyone cares :)

And this is why censoring the URL works better than banning the username. Even when some members are aware of something, they choose to let it continue. This has been a thrilling thread...
