LAHostNet Expands Service with World's First Fully Skinned Virtual Hosting Software Client

CA, USA June 28, 2002 - LAHostNet.Com, a fast growing provider of managed hosting solutions, today announced the release of cPanelGUI, the web hosting industry's first commercially available virtual hosting software of it's kind.

CpanelGUI is paving the way for a new trend in web site virtual hosting software. Users can now manage every aspect of their website from their familiar Windows desktop, with no need to login to an often unfamiliar and clumsy web interface.

CpanelGUI backend is powered by Cpanel4, the most popular web hosting management software, used by thousands of web host providers around the world. The easy to use CpanelGUI front-end, coupled with Cpanel back-end, has created the worlds most powerful web host management solution available today.

CpanelGUI has taken the software one step further and developed a fully skinned client. The Skin technology used in CpanelGUI allows the user to totally control the looks of the program changing it completely. Programs such as Microsoft's Windows Media Player, Winamp, Neoplanet and now Cpanel users, with the help of CpanelGUI, give the user a way to personalize the look and feel of their software.

Designed and developed by LAHostNet.com and commercially available at cPanelGUI.com, cPanelGUI is available for web hosts currently using CPANEL4 to manage their servers. In addition to a built-in tabbed interface web browser with pop-up prevention, other examples of features available to end-users include, multiple account management, viewing web mail, web statistics, creating email accounts, chat rooms, creating support tickets, mailing lists and more.

"Industry reports explosive growth in the managed hosting market in the next five years. Our new control panel gives web host companies a competitive advantage in this explosive market. By creating a simple and user-friendly interface, we help customers reduce time to market and accelerate their business model. We believe customers will enjoy the personalized look and feel they can now give their control panel software, along with the added ease and convenience of the Windows desktop," remarked Brad Larned, product support.

cPanelGUI software is designed for Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP.

What are the minimum requirements to run cPanel Gui, I downloaded the demo and it seems very slow to use.

It seems to use quite a bit of resources, I am very interested in getting it, Is just I need to make sure that my customer would not have to buy a new computer just to use it

The memory requirements are 64 megs, the program has been tested on machines as low as p400/64 with no problems.

What kind of machine are you running/specs? It's not usually slow at all and performs quite quickly.

We expect to see the memory reduced by as much as 50% in the next 30 days because of changes in skinning routine. The routines are built for speed right now and memory consumption is the reason with double buffering.

Remember too that minimized to the task tray it consumes around 2 megs of memory only.. :-)

No plans for this one..

Sorry, market is not as good for those products and we have our hands full supporting Windows :-)

Thanks

We will consider it later, right now it would'nt be fair to others here that have purchased cPanelGui already. So, to now throw in a special this soon might cause a rumble. Keep your eyes open, we will be running some promotions that will be posted here.

Thank you

Brad

Quite a product you have there Brad. What a truly unique idea--way to keep the competition on their toes. :)

I'll bet a ton of work went into the development of this product, and it definitely shows. Keep up the good work.

Hi Matt,

Yes, many long hours have been spent on the software development and research. We did a survey before starting the project with the users of 3 different companies to see if they would prefer a Windows program over their web browser login method and it was an overwhelming yes.

Web hosting sign-ups have increased, users have been jazzed over the new interface and the feedback from system experts like yourself has made it worth the efforts.

Thank you!!!

If this product was cross platform i would purchase it.

Looks great and even though it only runs on windows, i am thinking about buying it because it is what most customers use.

When doing future development, you should think that someday, being cross platform could benifit your company quite a bit. Apple's OS X is unix based so with a few tweeks (after 1 potential major rewrite) you could have a version for linux, *bsd and mac's. The numbers are rising :)

Yes, a cross platform version would be nice.. The one thing preventing this was a skinning routine that could function on all platforms and this is the major reason for the Windows only version. Also, as you said, the majority of users are using Windows, this is where the market is and most clients for Web Hosting services are using Windows.

We also did a survey before starting the software with Web Hosting clients with 3 seperate businesses. We asked the clients whether they would like to use a Windows software for their control panel as apposed to the current Web interface and it was an overwhelming yes for the Windows software. Cross platform was not even mentioned, but only a few of them were using Macs and asked for that instead. We considered a Java platform but there are to many problems still with java, so this was ruled out.

Bottom line, it was a marketing decision. The Windows software market is much better for developers and is the most popular choice. It is also the number one OS used by hosting clients..

The one thing I like to stress to web hosting services is this..

Look at your clients needs, ask them what they prefer, we have found they prefer the Windows software. They like the familiar Windows desktop for management. You will find if you offer this service, your sign-ups will increase. We had one cPanelGui customer gain 30 sign-ups in one day last week after adding this software to their services. I'm not sure what marketing was used but they told us cPanelGui was responsible for this increase and are very happy with the results. Pronic Solutions..

All I can say is, go where the market is and the majority of your customers are and you will be happy..

Even if you don't give it to your customers but just want it for yourself, give it a try, it makes managing multiple sites a breeze .. You can even switch from one hosting account to the other with a simple mouse click without having to enter your username and password.

Thanks for the compliment!
